Hi, I'm building my first system mainly for playing Cities Skylines, Simcity.

So far I have
NZXT Source 2 Elite
XTR 650 Gold PSU
HDD & Optical Drive

Can anyone please give advice or recommend a CPU for these types of games. I don't have huge budget and was looking at a i5 4690k?

Also can someone please explain the difference between a £50 motherboard and a £200 motherboard? Will I notice a difference when gaming between them? What is the difference (other than size) between ATX and MicroATX.

Any feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Matt

Hi Matt.
ATX has more PCI,PCI-e slots.
200 vs 50 quid-no really difference in gaming.(more expensive bords support up to 4 gpu,and a lot depends from processor you buying mobo for)
i5 4690k is fine

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

It depends on the features you want from the motherboard, for most users a lower motherboard is better suited, unledd you want to run multiple cards and get the world record for overclocking.

I have done a quick build below:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £199.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £89.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2133HC11ADC01) £52.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
Total : £382.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Thanks for the quick reply. Sounds like I'll go for a £50-£70 motherboard then.

In your opinion, will the i5 4690k run next gen games such as the upcoming Hitman game. I understand there are no system requirments yet.

Is there a huge difference between i7 and i5 4690k.

What about this one?

Gigabyte GA-H81M-H Motherboard (DDR3, SATA 600, Micro ATX, USB 3.0, HDMI, Socket 1150)

I intend to fit one graphics card and wireless card PCI adapter

Is an ethernet cable not a viable solution? Personally for gaming i prefer wired to wireless. Though it did require a bit of furniture rearranging to hide the cable.:D

If you want to overclock you will need a Z97 board.

Do you have a budget in mind?

I was hoping for £50 - £70

MSI Z97 PC Mate Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard (4x DDR3, 4x USB3.0, 8x USB2.0, GBE, LAN, HDMI, VGA, DVI)

Any good?

At the moment overclocking is not something I've considered but may do I the future if I need to.

Not too bad, couple of other options;

Can't overclock:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus H81M-K Intel Core i5 DIY Micro ATX Motherboard, CPU & RAM Bundle £225.97
Total : £235.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

or

I tend to go with Gigabyte:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £199.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £62.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYED38G2133HC11ADC01) £50.99
Total : £323.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

So my build is now as follows...

i5 4690k
Coolmaster Hyper 212 EVO
Gigabyte ZP9-D3
Kingston Hyper X 8GB DDRM 3 2400MHz
NZXT Source 2 Elite Case
XTR 650 Gold PSU
HDD & Optical Drive

Thinking of adding a 750ti 2gb Graphics card to finish. Will mainly play cities skylines. Will this do the job. It's £120.

Any other cards worth looking at for similar money?

Its used, returned, unwanted, so has 90 days warranty with ocUK and the remianed with the manufacture.

If you had members market access you would find a better deal, but thats the best I can find on the store for you.
