I have a budget of around 700 pound can go to 750 if its worth it i game a lot, BF 2142 C&C3 ect.. so gfx has to be nice. so far ive came up with this

Abit IL9 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Lian-Li PC-60 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black
OcUK Huntkey 550W PSU

if there is things i should change or you can come up with a better spec please say

thank you :)

Unless you really love the Lian Li case it might be worth downgrading to an Akasa Zen which would give you a further £70-80 inc. the added £50 you mention. With this I would change the PSU and motherboard. The motherboard is good but it wouldn't offer you as good an overclock as say an Abit AB9 or Gigabyte DS3P would give you. I'm also not sure how the PSU you selected is rated. So with the extra you could get something like an Akasa Ultra Quiet 500W.

change the baord to an asus p5n-e sli

Had real problems getting on board sound to work with this, apart from that its a kickarse board though! If someone can shed some light on the sound issue i'd say go for it as is packed with some really nice features

would the alaska zen be able to fit the GeForce 8800? i have read some threads about they are pretty big in size.

also the PSU on the gfx it says that 500w minimum 600w prefered thats why i went for the OcUk was in the middle of these at a good price.

thanks for input

Easily. It will fit the GTX in there too which is bigger. Have a look here. This is my system taken a few months ago in a Zen - http://membres.lycos.fr/darkz2004/case

With regards to the PSU. A 500W would be more than enough. Its the 12V rating you want to be paying attention to. A 450W PSU as long as it has a decent 12V rail will power a 8800 system no problems.

sounds good, how is the cooling in the akaska then :)?

this is the new build from your advice.

Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case - No PSU
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Total - 694

so if this looks i have some money spare to buy windows vista ;)

just another question, in the spec i said everything should be compatible right? and building dual core intel systems its basically the same as building a AMD?
because ive only built AMD systems before.

thanks again

Yeah its all the same mate, same standard proceedure for building. All the components you have selected are compatible. One thing, if you are wanting to go past the 3GHz mark you are likely to need an after-market cooler as the stock one that comes with you're CPU will struggle to keep the chip cool enough.

ok thanks a lot for the advice , well i am going to order the computer now and in a month or so i will buy the Tuniq 120 CPU cooler and start overclocking.

Thanks a lot! :)
