Hi all

I have been out of the build yourself for some years now, but my old computer is having a hard time with my new cad software so thought it was time to upgrade.

Processor wise I was looking at the Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz, but when I looked at mother boards and memory there are loads to choose from.

So I don't want to overclock or play games, just need a fairly hefty system to crunch the cad software. Rendering is done via the graphics card and is not a problem; it's just the actual 3d wire frame stuff that once it gets fairly complex my current system takes ages, as in minutes to crunch the data, if possible would like to keep under 1k if possible, but not essential

Any info, advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

:) Rick

Hi

Sorry didn't make that too clear did I ;) Just a new motherboard, processor and memory, as I currently have a X9770 which is old and not compatable. Graphics card is ok for now and so is the ssd.

Hi again

So I had a look and found the following bits but not sure if they work well together especially the memory or if the motherboard is more gaming or overclocking based than suitable for cad based computing, of if it makes a difference.

Memory I was thinking the more the better as some things I draw are huge and complicated, but not sure if win 7 has a limit, currently have 8gb.

Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail

Gigabyte X79-UD7 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard

G.Skill RipJawsZ 32GB (8x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Quad Channel Kit

Many thanks
