Help with Overclock

Yeah P965 wasn't really designed for quads, tho it does a pretty good job with them upto 380-400mhz.

You may have a wee bit left, but your load temps are edging up towards the sensible limit.

I'd still try for 3.5ghz, providing the board and your temps allow you too.

I was wondering, should I now try and lower the voltage to see if it runs any cooler?

If so, how much should I reduce the voltage too?

Many thanks

just drop it by 1 notch in the BIOS and re-run prime95 leave it going for a good couple of hours, if its stable then drop it by 1 notch again... after you have fiddle constantly with your setup for a couple of months you will get a "feel" for what will and wont be stable :)

Well, tried lowing the voltage a notch but it then failed P95. The system just reset and gave the usual error that the system had recovered from a serious error. So, it seems that I have reached my limit.

Can you now help with overclocking my memory to see what we can achieve, if I did overclock is it likely that I will notice and change compared to the standard settings?

I know its at 5-5-5-15 as I previously had issues when overclocking it as I can remember it would save the settings to anything else otherthan the 5-5-5-15.

DRAM FREQ - 389.0
RATIO 1:1

This information was from CPUz but the settings under SPD show different information but this may not matter but Im not sure as I am new to all this.

Thanks in advance

not to sure about the Gigabit board BIOS but you should just beable to set DRAM Timmings to Manual and input the 4-4-4-12 leaving rest on auto, you are also running them slower than stock 398 * 2 = 778Mhz so you might beable to squeeze a little more out of em

All changed to 4-4-4-12

Just to double check what should the voltage be for the RAM? I'm not sure what it is set upto now but all seems good at its current settings.

I'm happy with an overclock of 3.50 on my CPU, would you with your experience think that my overclocks are better than others or should I really be able to get more out of it by adding extras?

Would you recommend changing the RAM settings or leaving it at 4-4-4-12 and what differences will I notice with the new RAM settings?

Many thanks in advance

4-4-4-12 should feel snappier in windows.. tbh 3.5Ghz is plenty fast enough for day-to-day working you wont notice much difference for example between 3.5 and 3.6 only in bench marking

I am now having problems with my memory, it seems that it is only running at 778MHZ when the RAM is 800MHz

(RAM Timings) 4-4-4-12

(CPU) 3.501MHz - 389x9

My multiplier is set to 2.00 and the DDR Overvoltage is set to 2.00, I try and increase the Multiplier to 2.50 but my system doesn't like it and the mainboard resets my settings. I tried to also increase the DDR Overvoltage also and still my system didn't like it.

Is there anyway around this, please?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry about it.

Even if you could use the x2.5 multiplier, you wouldn't see any difference.

:)
