Have you tried to disable your overclock to see if the BSOD is still there? Maybe your OC isn't stable anymore

Hi daveip I have yeah but I'm not sure if I have the settings right because it doesn't bsod but it's still very slow on start up and programs become unresponsive. The ram seems to be eaten up or not running at it's potential. sandra says memory bus speed exceeds chipset rated speed reduce fsb/memory multiplier...I think I've been looking at this too long and just cant see it clearly anymore to know what to do.

The slow startup and blue screens/unresponsiveness are most likely to be caused by your HD.
Most likely on it's way out.

Another thing what HD do you have ?

Not a Crucial SSD is it ?

Nah it's a samsung spinpoint f4. I've had these problems since before I got this hdd. That was my first thought and that's why I changed hdd.

what bsod? theres usually a code that looks like this 0x00000124 for example, try to catch it next time

When the sata 3 ports on my ASUS P67 PRO were dying the behaviour was as you describe.

The board still works but only the SATA 6 ports are reliable
Retired it now too lazy/late for an RMA

I'll try catch the bsod code next time it happens.

Ah I hope it's not the sata ports dying, I wont be able to afford any new parts for a while :(

Do my bios settings seem right?

settings look ok to me

how much ram? if 16gb you might need two to three clicks more vccio voltage from stock 1.05v (might be called vccsa, whatever one's at 1.05v default)

I've only got 4gb. I thought the settings were ok but sometimes I've noticed the ram gets set to 1333mhz without me touching anything. Is this a problem with the p8p67?

it will reset the ram speed to default 1333mhz if it crashes badly

you then have to set it back to rated 1600mhz or whatever its rated at

Ah ok I see, I'm not sure at all what to do with it. I've not had a bsod now since starting this thread, typical but if one occurs I'll post it. Does anyone see anything that might make my pc slow because it really is. Start up takes forever and transferring files via usb takes ages etc.

You could try looking in the Event Viewer, it might have some more information on the cause of the crashes. It should also have the error code mentioned above, which would help identify the problem.

Also, reinstalling OS could help the problem too.

I got another bsod...
