help with pc upgrade

EVGA 460 £119.99
XFX 650W Modular PSU £76.98
Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600mhz CAS 9 £38.39

Total is £246.76 inc VAT and P&P....plenty left over for a fan.

The 460 is still a good budget gaming card. It has cuda as i mentioned before and it supports 3D. If you mobo does SLI properly you could look into running two of them at some point. In SLI nvidia cards support 3 screen gaming.

*EDIT*

You are a lil unlucky the 460 has just gone up from £111 and 8GB of kingston genesis grey was £35.

my motherboard has only one pci x 16 slot and suppords amd cards better

thats how its made, not sure how but thats whats on the box

I doubt it. Only thing I can think of would be if it had a radeon IGP and you could use Hybrid Xfire. Not that it would work with a 6870 anyways.

If you want the 6870 fair enough but the 460 SOC makes more sense for your needs.

depends on the one I get about 150

There is an asus 560ti for £168. Is faster and you are getting the cuda support and physx (for games that use it). A 2GB card would be better but that's more cash obviously.

Oh and regarding the PSU. Modular means you only plug in the cables you intend to use. So less clutter, looks neater and the airflow is improved helping keep temps low. Seeing as you can get modular for the same price it's definately worth doing....those XFX PSUs are very good.

I am so confused now whether I should get a modular or non-modular psu, I have never had to replace or install a psu so which would be the easier option as Its likely I'm going to forget when to put all the cables, does anyone have any tips.

The cables would be straight forward and nothing to worry about, if your not sure at the time just ask on the forum. The modular will be neater.

I would have to go with the non-modular being more straight forward depending on the psu in question. Some modular psu's come with some cables already attached sort of semi modular, you need to check the psu your buying.

Sorry MrBlueuk the above might not help. if your that concerned just get a non-modular psu and some cable ties to make the unused cables neater.

Like I said the XFX modular was the same price basically as the PSU you had on your wish list.

Fitting a modular PSU is no different than fitting a non modular PSU. It still has the same connectors, you just plugin in the cables you need to the PSU and leave the "spare" ones in the box.

As I said, less clutter in the case, so it looks neater and helps air move through the case easier keeping things cool. Your not paying a premium for it so go for it!
