Hi all,

I currently have a Samsung F3 1TB drive for my OS, this HD has Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit plus my games on it. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P with the ICH10R southbridge chipset according to CPU-Z?

I have two Samsung F3's 500gb with which I want to try out a Raid 0 set up.

Now what I am wondering is, can I set up the Raid 0 on the 500gb drives without disturbing the 1TB drive? Then use Windows 7 to transfer a full back up to the Raid setup and then boot from the Raid?

Or do I have to do a full Windows 7 re-install from genuine disc?

Many thanks,
Steve

Wel I still can't seem to get drivers to work, anyone got any pointers here?

Put the Gigabyte site ones on but not visible in bios, tried following the Gigabyte instructions but to no avail. Surely there is some way to set up two Sammy F3's in Raid 0 with Windows 7 64 and a Gigabyte EP45-DS3P without buying more hardware!

Well I have went into bios, set it to Raid, then configured it to 0 with a 128 stripe via the <ctrl> and <I> option. Have the drivers dowloaded from mobo support at Giigabyte on a usb, I can browse the usb when prompted by the W7 install but no appropriate drivers are found on the usb?

The W7 install shows the two 500gb Sata drives as a single item, it says boot device in the bios <ctrl> and <I> set up?

Edit, when I load my W7 disc to do a fresh install I get a little yelow triangle sign and notice stating; Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error 0X800001

I have tried loading drivers for raid to USB and CD but seem unable to get any working?

Hi all, I have managed to set up Raid 0, I still get 5.9 on the Windows Index Score, have not noticed any speed benefit, and have had to reduce the overclock as running Raid 0 seems to have affected it and I was getting crashes. On top of that my boot times are way slower than ever.
Mangaged after re-trying a few times to get it to install, W7 didn't need any drivers, it was the basic Raid enabled in bios, Raid 0 chosen in Raid settings, reboot into bios and choose Raid set up for boot priority with boot from hard drive set in bios, and then a straight install of Windows 7 64bit? Don't know what was going wrong previous, probably missed some obvious bios setting

I will probably now run a single 500gb OS drive with 1tb storage and a 1.5 green for backup. After a wee play with the Raid 0 set up.

Raid 0 seems to have affected it and I was getting crashes.

It shouldn't affect your o/c at all, it certainly never affected my o/c in over 5 years of using a RAID0 volume for my OS...

You will only see a worthwhile performance increase using RAID0 as opposed to a single HDD/SDD if you are regularly working with large (video files), ie., copy/moving, or regularly unzipping large zipped files/folders...

Well it did, I had it OC'd to 4ghz but found with Raid I was getting consistent crashes until I reduced the OC

And it (the Raid set up)also failed tonight. So back to my old set up but now with added problems as for some reason my designated E drive has been relabeled as D and now my music movies and such are messed up. (The drive had been disconnected while I cleaned the case out)
