Help with Spec

I bought these in the end, see below.

I don't know how to overclock and when I read the Overclocking forum the warning about overclocking killing the lifetime of the hardware just made me hesitate. Then I thought playing it safe until the warantee expires on the hardware could always give me the option to overclock in the future by which time I should make an effort to learn.

So I am now waiting for delivery and then start the building. I will probably be back for some help.

Thanks again for the advice you provided.

All kit will be delivered next week. In the meantime I have a question.

I want to run 2 X 1TB HDDs so that I can back the main drive with another. I believe I need to use RAID 1. Should I buy a raid controller card or is this in built in the ASUS Rampage extreme motherboard and I can do the set up in the bios?

Thank you

Could someone please advise me on the following: I want to run 2 X 1TB HDDs so that I can back the main drive with another. I believe I need to use RAID 1. Should I buy a raid controller card or is this in built in the ASUS Rampage extreme motherboard and I can do the set up in the bios?

Thank you

Sure thing,

The Asus Rampage 2 Extreme has a raid controller built into the southbridge - so if you connect the SATA ports from the 1TB HDDs to the motherboard ports linked to the ICH10R southbrigde (should say on the motherboard). Then you should be able to set up a RAID 1 (mirrored) in the BIOS (again refer to your manual for the details of setting this up).

Please help: I cannot find the slots to place the c 97 and the hd audio on the motherboard. thanks

This is turning into a nightmare. Took all day today and three hours yesterday to build this thing. Checked all wiring and connections. Powered on and strong burning smell came on. I disconnected the power cable and checked again before powering up again. This time smoke came out of the Power Supply.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks

Oh cripes!

Well first thing - don't use the power supply again. Get in contact with the retailer you bought from to arrange an RMA.

But before-hand, would you be able to post a picture of your motherboard connections as you had them when the PSU went poof? With this i'd be happy to check that you made all the correct connections.

Do you have any power supplies spare or borrowable from friends? If so, you can check if the rest of your system is OK, and then use it while you wait for a replacement/repaired power supply from the ratailer/corsair.

This is probably of little concern for the moment, but I will address your other questions so you can be sorted for when you resolve your PSU problem:

According to the manual - the HD Audio front panel connector connects into the X-Fi Supreme FX add-in card. If you have a different sound card installed - you will be looking to connect HD Audio cable direct to that. Forget about the AC97 connection, it is old stuff and not required if you use the HD Audio.

Also the 902 uses two cages that hold 3 hard disks each. If you remove one of these cages, install a hard disk in it and install the cage at the bottom of the case, you should have no troubles.

Ah you are back...thanks
I'm off to sleep now but I'll to post them tomorrow morning before I shoot off to work. As for the others I sort of sorted them out exactly as you've mentioned.

I'm really worried in case other components have been damaged or fried up. By the way my cable management is absolutely awful when you see the pictures tomorrow.

You need to upload them to an image host like Imageshack. When uploaded, the host gives you a direct link to the image - you copy this and paste it in the forums image box.

Edit: Beaten to it :D

Big mistake with the cables...I should have got the Antec 1200. I didn't realise thid thing was so compact and not enough space.

Cheers, couple of questions:

Is that corsair pump connected to the CPU fan header or a power supply connector? It needs to be connected to something that will give it constant 12V not a varying supply.

Also, were the 24pin main motherboard connector and 8 pin 12V_ATX cables connected securely to the motherboard? The connections are obscured in that picture.

Yes the corsair pump is connected to a three pin connector on the motherboard.
The ATX 12V connection is next to the fan connector on the board. I connected that too and it is behind the push & pull fans.

The cables are in the way. The motherboard power connector is side to side with the optical drives next to the RAM modules. I do apologise for the poor quality of the picture taken this morning on my mobile.

Both motherboard and 12V ATX connection were secure. I forget to mention that when I switched the power on the Corsair supply on, all the lights on the motherboard lit up and the fans were all fine. However I did not get any image on the monitor when I switch the computer on. I am using a Dell 19" Ultra sharp.

I have phone the supplier and they have told me to return the Power supply through an RMA as you suggested.

Thanks
