Help with Spec

Good to hear about the power supply RMA. When you get smoke - you have a pretty good case for an RMA.

As for the Corsair Pump, you will need to change the connector. It needs to be plugged into an uncontrolled 3 pin header. Personally, I directly connected it to the PSU via 4-pin molex + a cable like this, this ensures it gets un-interrupted 12v supply. I would suggest putting one of the radiator fans on the CPU_fan header.

Do you have any spare/borrowable power supplies to get your system up and running while you wait for your PSU to be sorted (which can take a few weeks) ?

The supplier agreed to pick up the whole PC up tomorrow and have an inspection in case I have wrongly connected something up hence the smoke. I have a 250 w power supply from another machine. Will that be sufficient? I can try that tonight.

Ok, I will try the 4 pin Molex+ cable. As for putting the radiator fan on the CPU_fan header, I think I have done this already, but I will double check when i get home.

Any idea why the screen didn't come on?

250W is unlikely to be enough. You've got a really great mix of components, it'll be awesome once it's up and running! :)

With the graphics card connected - 250W will not be enough unfortunately.

As for the screen not coming on. I'm not sure, there are many reasons for this to happen. But having smoke billow out of the PSU next time you turned it on suggests to me that there wasn't nearly enough power going to the components (due to broken PSU). However, this is just speculation - it really could be any number of things.

If you look at the pictures you'll see there is a TV card in between the Graphics card and the PSU and that's exactly wher the smoke was coming out of.

Ok...some good news and some bad.

The good news is I disconnected everything and started from scratch. I did not put the TV card in. No burning smell and no smoke! Hourray....

The bad news is when I switch the PC on there is no response from the motherboard, no beep sound and no picture on the screen!

As usual any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

No smoke is good, hopefully when the supplier picks up the PC and inspects it, they will find it is just the PSU damaged, not any of your other main components.

Best of luck, mate.

I don't think it is the PSU now.PSU worked fine last night, no smell of burning at all.I wonder whether it is the motherboard. As I mentioned earlier on, no beeping sound from keyboard and no picture at all on the screen.

You could probably test if the motherboard is OK using your spare 250w supply. Disconnect the graphics card and hard disks to get the power requirement as low as possible. Then connect up the 250w and see what happens. If nothing happens, you may well have a dead board, if something happens (fans spin, lights flash, thongs beep) then it is likely a psu problem.

If you test it and conclude the motherboard is dead, the psu could also be dead - as a fault power sully can take other key components down with it.

Thank you very much. I have added a few more photos to the link above when I was testing evey component last night. I'm not too sure if it helps but please have a look.

Should the trible kit RAM modules be in the white slot or the blue ones? I inserted them in the blue ones as seen in the manual but I have just read that online that they are supposed to go inthe white ones. Grateful if someone could confirm. Thanks
