Help with SpinRite

Hey,

So I want to recover data from an IDE HDD which has bad sectors on it, and was recommended SpinRite after having exhausted my options from other programs (EasyRecovery etc).

So I bought SpinRite, created the boot disc and restarted, loading SpinRite. It gives me a choice of my hard drives to use, so I selected the defective drive and told it to do a level 2 data recovery. However when doing this, it just stops where it starts, and won't continue. I've left it on for 8 hours and it's still on 99%, and nothing has changed. Anyone know what's up with this? Does it usually do this, or what's wrong?

Also, would it be worth perhaps trying to fix the bad sectors, or is that pushing my luck too far?

And when it does retrieve data from the drive, where does it put it? Back onto the drive? I can't actually access he drive in Windows; I can see it, but I can't access it.

Cheers guys, this really is the last attempt for me at getting this stuff back, so annoyed now.

Thanks!

No, just does the same thing. Stops at 0.003% and won't do anything again.

I don't really know what to say. I don't really know how the hell this HDD got in this state, it can't be THAT bad, as I've managed to pull a good 21gb of data off of it, there's just some stuff that I really want but can't access due to bad sectors.

Has anyone got any ideas on new things to try? What about fixing the bad sectors? I recently got a message saying that the drive wasn't formatted.. Should I try formatting it and then running a data recovery software on it?

Literally about to give up now, so any last help would be awesome. Cheers

Is that actually the BEST? What makes it better than EasyRecovery and whatever else I've tried? Will it just give up when it hits a bad sector?

YES, tried them all in past, not FREE but what is thats any real use and is your DATA worth the cash :).

See instead of asking me 100 Q's you could have tried it by now m8, its FREE to run and get back very small files.

It saved me form a HDD made RAW by a Mobo frying, nothing else even seen the NTFS nevermind DATA.

If you have bad sectors then the DATA can be 100% knackered on that part of HDD, nothing will get it back, this however can get DATA back thats gettable back in 1st place. :)

Advise you read the peeps comments on the site and see if they are in same situ as yourself.
