I have windows 8.1 running off an 80GB partition on a larger 256GB ssd.

What tool would you recommend backing up windows with such that in the event of a failure or I need to rollback I can restore that 80GB partition to either a new SSD or the 80GB space on the current SSD.

I tried windows image restore and it took 3 days of troubleshooting cause it cannot figure out where to restore (it never asks) and then wiped everything off both my ssds.

Loads about. Both paid and free.

I personally can recommend acronis true image. Been using it for around 7 years now and it's saved my bacon on a number of occasions. The last one being when the ssd holding my OS failed (vertex 4). Just upgraded to acronis true image 2016 (fully windows 10 complient). It can back up complete systems, individual disks\partitions, or individual files\folders. Plus pretty much every options available (ie. Full\incremental backups etc. Etc.). Plus its dead easy to use. Everyone has their favourite but this is mine.

Plenty of others out their though.

PS. You can also create a bootable DVD etc. To allow you to recover if your OS drive is FUBAR. Used it myself a while back.

Can Macrium be used to create system images that can be restored to the drive at a later date?
