Can any help me with some problems I am having with talktalk broadband, randomly the net will just stop working and start to just generally stop loading pages, even to the point of loosing connection, it seems to be happening sometimes late at night but also in the day it can struggle, even watching youtube videos can be a pain, they just stop loading sometimes and have to refresh one or two times to try and get it to work to which it's kind of starts to work especially 720 and above.

Another thing that happens sometimes is when doing a speed test at speedtest.net it will get 3/4 of the download at a good speed and then start to drop, sometimes to 1.5Mb/s or less but when it's working good it's great
and videos on youtube will play easily in 1080, but as above there are times throughout the week when something just stops working right.

Thing is voice comms and xbox live games will still play fine even when connection sometimes has been lost on two different PC's so something is a miss.

Here are some stats from my router which is a Thomson TG585 v8.
DSL Connection

Link Information

Uptime: 0 days, 14:05:56

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,264 / 21,956

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,020 / 21,631

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 148.78 / 2.57

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 20.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 15.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 15.0 / 5.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 26,816 / 63,413

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 2,610 / 420

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 47 / 3,329

What I am concerned about is the SN Margin up/down 15/5.5, now from what I understand the down is on it's lower limit which is not good? from what I have read it should be around 16 down?

Is this a source of my problems?

To start this page explains your stats:

Frequent disconnections can be caused by a series of things, I'll order them in terms of cost/ease to try:

-Replace the ADSL Filter with a good quality one such as the XF-1e.
-Connect directly to the router with a short patch lead to eliminate connection issues in the LAN
-Call your ISP Customer Service and request a Line Check, asking them if there are any flags or noise on the line resulting from the check
-Replace the router with a good quality piece of kit such as a DrayTek 2710n
-Change ISP to a more reliable service such as Plus.net using your good quality filter/router from the previous steps

Hope that helps and let me know if you need more help.

Just recently having the same problems with talktalk seems to be getting progressively worse its got to the point now evenings it is down to a maximum 50 kbit/s.

Its not my end because very early mornings I can max out at 800k. Time to ditch.

I can't change supplier, as where I live only talktalk offer this kind of speed when it's working correctly, I have tried sky and Bt, both appalling in my area, I actually have posted on the talktalk members forum where it seems there are staff that will be able to help and even change profiles on the line, just waiting for them to catch up with mine.

5.5 SNR isn't a big problem, provided you have a decent modem and it doesn't drop much below 2 or 3 in the evening.

The HEC and CRC errors are a little higher than you'd expect on a short line though. Something might be adding noise Into the line.

Monitor the HEC and CRC errors and see if you can determine if they are a gradual thing or a all at once thing which might indicate a slight line issue.

Slow speeds at certain times ofthe day is probably just the poor talk talk provision where they cram as many users as they can onto the service.
