help with upgrade please

i would like to stay with ATI don't know why really just feel comfortable with them and know my way round the software with them

the XFX is now saying out of stock the next one is the sapphire at £275

Thats a 6970 card;)

A 6950 can be flashed into a 6970 to give it the same speed for £200, saving £70.

hmm, confused now :/ so if i get a new mobo, why would i have to re install the os if its on my HDD and im not changing it?

Driver issues I think mainly, I tend to work on if I am changing to a complete new chipset I do a fresh install, if it's just a update version, ie changing my X58 UD5 to a newer X58 then I would risk it.

Also fresh installs with all the newest drivers freshly installed are always nice, did this pc last night, took 1hr to get everything done.

this is very true it nice to have a clean fresh PC was that an 1 hour to even install windows?

Yes, win7, service pack1, newest motherboard drivers/gpu drivers/sound drivers, firewall and anti virus, remaining widows updates. just no software or games.

Having a blisteringly fast SSD helps:)

going back to my graphics card & processor would i be best removing card drivers change cards then install new drivers? or is there another better way?

If its the same ATI card, plug it in, and you can install the latest Catalyst driver over the top.

if changing to Nvidia, you can use driver sweeper/cleaner to uninstall the other makers drivers.

Yes.

Theres also one more option.

that is put a different CPU into your motherboard and replace your crossfire setup with a single GPU, do you have 4GB of RAM?

The CPU support list has the PhenomII 955BE listed.

hi guys I brought the processor and graphics card and installed last night but now windows doesn't recognise my processor. After a little google it turns out I may need a BIOS upgrade so had a troll over to the DFI website and a read up on how to do it and downloaded all I need. The web site suggests using EZ_flash which I installed and ran but it keeps coming up with "error BOIS does not support AFU" (what ever that is)

so my question is do I really need to update my BIOS or is the processor not working at its full protential and I should find a way to upgrade?

Can you update the bios using a floppy drive?

Is the BIOS writee protected? is there a jumper on the motherboard to stop the BIOS be re written? is there a menu in the BIOS to enable/disable BIOS updates/flashing?
