Hi, I just plugged my old HDD into my new PC in order to retreive data, but it's a total mess without being the master drive, governed by the OS.
Where can I find all the stuff like My documents, and folders on the desktop of my old PC?

Not the most helpful thread title.

For XP, my guess as it's a 'old' hard drive. If its 98se/vista let us know.

D:/ Documents and settings / jon / Desktop and similar.
Programs are installed under program files if you need something from there.

It isn't a total mess, it's exactly the same as what you'd have seen if you looked in the C:\ drive while running windows from it. You can also use the Search icon in the start menu to great effect for finding things. Still, the above is the answer you're looking for I believe

I dont seem to have Documents and Settings when I open the HDD... thats the problem.
I'm running windows 7, and the HDD was from an XP PC.

EDIT: Thanks guys... I was being stupid.... Show hidden folders :D
