Downloaded both 32 and 64 bit versions of the Windows 7 RC. I have my dads old laptop, an IBM Thinkpad T30. However I think I must have accidentally installed the 64 bit version. The processor is not 64 bit compatible. I can't get to the sign in screen.

What should I do?

Install the 32bit version?

I'm not being funny, just insert the 32bit DVD and reboot. Although I'm not sure if W7 would have let you install an incompatible version in the first place.

im pretty sure if you install the wrong version , it will tell you during the install and not let you complete installing. .

If you don't have a x64 compatible processor it won't let you install the x64 version.

Sounds more like a password problem than a 32/64 bit issue.

I have tried installing the 32 bit version, however I get the following error:

Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt.

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM.

Select "r" at the first screen to start repair.

Any ideas? :(

You need to boot of the 32bit DVD to install it.

when you turn on the computer, press whichever button to get into bios.

search the boot tab and change where it says boot from hard drive to boot from dvd drive. hopefully you'll have the 32 bit dvdin there and the disc should pu a clean install on the hard drive

Just go into the bios, and select the cd/dvd drive as the initial boot.

Then format the original c drive, and start over with the install.
