HELP!

G7 was completely unsuitable for anything other than an office machine.

I'll bet you a tenner it cannot supply 880w and the ripple is in at least the hundreds of mV range and looks like a heart monitor.

there should be a sticky on this "DON'T BUY CHEAP POWER SUPPLY'S"

its the most important item in your pc,dont scrimp on it.

**REMOVE POWER SOCKET FROM WALL**

Do not re-attach that blown supply. You are going to have to fork out for a new one. Get a good branded PSU like CORSAIR or the like. Sucks bro but you'll live and learn.

how long ago did you buy it?

Almost two years ago, but it blew around November last year which is when I tried getting a refund. I told him that it did not work as advertised, all g with other arguments...but I really couldn't be bothered with the hassle over £40 :P

By the way, when you look inside it (through the vents, don't open it up) are there any burned chips? As that appears to be what happened to mine?

Just buy a decent brand one, don't scrimp on the psu. Far better off with a high quality 600w than a cheap and cruddy 880w which won't sustain that wattage anyway.

Get a 600w corsair or xfx psu.

G7 isnt a totaly cheap brand of PSU's if you consider their price around (£50 for 680w) which isnt totally cheapo brand and they do come with safety features and noise reduction (that strange toothpaste)

ah fair enough you could buy a corsair however as im sure lots of other people would say you should read a review or 2 about the power supply you are thinking of buying because Corsair dont make their own PSU's

Have had a couple blow up on me, probably lucky but no damage to components. Hope you have the same result (Corsair for me all the way).

well ive got an AMD 1090T and a AMD 6950 and i do play a fair bit of games, how much do you reckon its gonna be for one that will power that or what wattage should i be looking at ?

You'd probably be fine with 500Watt but those 2 above are 600Watt as they are only £2 more expensive then their 500Watt variants.

If you want cheap but a reasonable make so not quite as risky as before:

I would personally recommend the first one though.

These are good choices [personally wouldn't bother with the last one].

I've got the Coolermaster one, great PSU and not expensive for a modular unit :) There's a review of it here.

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

Radeon HD 6950 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 500 Watt power supply unit.

From here.

Not sure where you got the bit about being £2 more expensive than the 500W versions? This OCZ 550W is a good price, and would run your system fine as a cheaper option.

Sorry, £3 more expensive for 600Watt over 500Watt not £2, my bad ;)

.

yeah from what i can see inside there is fair few burnt chips also when i shake it theres some ratteling. just having a look at some power supplies, will a Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 be any good ?

I have a seasonic x-650 80 gold and a 1055T overclocked with 8Gb ram, three HDD and a 6950 GFX card. The PSU fan hardly ever spins up indicating the loads are at about 40% or less
