Hi everyone! My computer is running really slow and is unable to open certain files so I told my friend and he suggested that I delete a file called "system32" I don't have any idea about computer software so I also came here before I did anything. Is this the proper thing to do? He then told me to re-download it again off the internet.

Thanks in advance!

I'm running Windows and thanks I'll try that first and then if nothing happens I'll then delete system32.

Why? I don't understand what is wrong with it? My friend is very into computers and he told me to do it.

step 1:- http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

step 2:- put iso on a disk or memory stick.

step 3:- turn to pc and restart hit the key that gets you into bios, then find the boot order option and set to cd,usb, hdd.

step 4:- press f10 or what ever key you bios needs to save and restart. (make sure to have the disk or memory stick in before this)

step 5:- let unbuntu instal and enjoy the light side.

friend might be into computers but he sounds clueless like said above dont delete that folder
what size harddrive have you got could be running low on space so check how much is available

2TB but I just got off the phone to him and he said it was all a joke that it was my OS i would be deleting! But he has extra in the event I actually did it! :)

Your "friend" seems to be playing a sick prank on you, seem like the guy?

Don't take his word when it comes to computers if he suggests deleting system32 to make your pc faster.

That or you're trolling :D

Your friend has no idea how to use a computer if he is asking you to delete the system32 folder. That is a very important folder and windows will not function without it. Jesus and some people call themselves computer experts. He is not your friend asking you to do that or he is very stupid with computers that use windows os.

As above people have said really. Windows has a defragmenter built in and woud lstrongly suggest CCleaner.
If it is still slow it could be failing hardware.......see where this is going?
Delete system32 was a massive and wrong stab in the dark.
Tell your friend he's not your friend any more.
