HEPA Air purifier/Fan

Got mine setup yesterday. Your right about the sensitivity, it fired up within 10 seconds of my dog coming into my room.
Honestly, I even farted near it and it picked it up :D

It's the best feature on the Phillips. I wish I had it on my bluair.

I leave mine on auto and it just ramps up whenever it needs to. It's a brilliant machine and you can be rest assured it's working because you know when you do certain things it will ramp up a second or two later.

Even coming out the shower it ramps for some reason.

Don’t know about yours, but my rooms quite small and it isn’t far away from me. It’s almost like having a little air con nearby. Seems to really cool me down with cool air.

We have 2 because we have pets and dander causes us issues, in the bedroom I have a silent night one, which you just manually set the fan speed, recently bought a TaoTronics one which is much larger and has a PM2.5 meter on it which can control the fan speed. Filters for the TaoTronics cost £49.99 on amazon and need replacing 6-12 months.

It's just a fan in that sense. It's a really simple machine on that regard. All it is, is a filter and a fan.

The design of the case is such that the fan sucks in air through the filter and out the top or outlet depending on the model some are side on so it's like a proper fan.

You could in theory build one using a fan and a few filters and a plastic case which you drill holes into.

You would lose all the smart sensor features but could probably knock one up for less than £50. All depends on if you can get cheap large filters to use.

Just strap a hepa filter to a desk fan :D

My bluair is much more than that. It has 4 different filters.

One for carbon / smoke, etc.

It filters even the larger droplets of Covid 19 as it's filters are superior to that of my Phillips.

A HEPA is basic and for vacuums and you get HEPA fans already from Dyson.

An air purifier is a lot more than HEPA well the decent ones are.

The bluair uses filters that don't meet industry standards. They're "HEPASilent" terminology is marketing guff because they don't want to meet the standard. Giving equal efficiency to "True HEPA" in itself is a misnomer, True HEPA isn't a thing. The reason you get more air through the bluair is because the filters are less dense.

HEPA has many more applications than simply vacuum cleaners, and a stamped HEPA filter will remove SARS-CoV-2 as it's particle size is bang on the money where HEPA filters are most effective. For the record, HEPA filters also remove odours and smoke, whereas I see bluair required a separate filter entirely for that?

And with regards to filtering covid particles, unless there's some serious anti-bacterial coating (unlikely) or a UV chamber it will just house the particles until they naturally deteriorate; still much better than doing nothing, but doesn't eliminate it immediately.

@robfosters - Are you still happy with the Philips 2000i?

I am also looking at something for my roughly 12ft x 15ft bedroom/office as however much I clean in here there is always dust appearing within a matter of days. Currently I have been using a cheap Levoit I purchased a while back from the rainforest but even after changing the filter recently I don't think it's powerful enough. I also have asthma so removing allergens other than the considerable amount of dust is obviously also important.

Having read through the posts I notice that there are auto modes on some of these purifiers. I think that would be really great as it is not ideal running at full whack continuously.

Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks all.

Yes i'm very happy with it. have noticed quite a big difference at night. I'm definitely sleeping better and breathing easier since I've had it, and the dust level in here along with odours is certainly greatly reduced.

It also has an added bonus of keeping me cool at night. The Alexa integration is very handy as well.

I've seen those levoit they are constantly on offer.

I think it's just a cheap Chinese company pumping them out and they aren't worth it.

Apologies for hijacking the thread but would a purifier work with removing smell from a room?

We have neighbours who not only smoke like a chimney but also have a weed habbit and as a non smoker/weed user find the bedroom constantly smells.

I've been looking at the Philips 2000i (2020 model) and I have seen the Hoover model which also filters PM 10, not sure if that's absolutely necessary. Trying to decide between those two.

Appreciate anyone more knowledgeable to chime in.

Hi everyone
I have a small bedroom. Does anyone have experience with Philips 800?

I do. It's okay but it's filter isn't as good as the 2000 or 3000.

It only does 99.5% whereas the others do 99.7%

It's quite loud when it ramps up which it will do. Which is why bigger models are better as they filter so well and so quickly that the noise won't annoy you for as long.

When you say 3000i do you mean this one? https://www.johnlewis.com/philips-ac3033-30-expert-series-3000i-connected-air-purifier/p5069099?s_share=w_ios
I’ve been looking for an air purifier for my small bedroom for a while now and was looking at the Phillips 800, concerned about the size of the 3000i.

I just one something to reduce the dust in my room and run quietly.

I've sold all of mine and switched to IKEA.

Why?

They only cost £50 and come with HEPA filter as standard and charcoal filter is only £10 to get rid of gases.

So total cost £60 plus £20 every 6-12 months on filters.

Has 3 fan speeds so they can run in background on low and you can't hear it. Can be wall mounted. Look amazing. Best looking air filter there is. IKEA stuff always looks nice.

I'd recommend that you go for IKEA. Cheaper up front and long run.

Phillips filters are very expensive as we're blu air. I think my blu air replacement filters were £60 each. More than cost of IKEA purifier.

Of the two reviews it has one of them mentioned it is not good with dust, which is my main priority with what I need to have. Very often I can even see the dust floating around in the air.

What is causing so much dust in the first place?

I don't have much dust I got the purifiers mainly for kitchen use. Smoke from cooking not being extracted or from the oven or other kitchen gadgets.

It's use elsewhere is mainly just for airflow and to ensure nothing majorly harmful is in the air. It helps reduce virus spreading, etc.

I don't know but I'm guessing computer equipment as its mostly in that area.
