Here are all the games that support Nvidia’s RTX ray tracing

Precisely why I have, for a long time now, scoffed at the focus this technology gets.

Nvidia makes a huge deal out of it, so do reviewers, fans etc, but it's simply an early technology that Nvidia has to pay developers to include.

Give it another couple of years, maybe more, then it might influence my buying decisions.

For now, I'd rather save a couple of hundred quid and buy a SKU with no RT, but of course Nvidia can't have that...

And as for their treatment of Hardware Unboxed, utterly disgusting, no matter how sincere their subsequent apology sounded. Their need to strong arm reviewers highlights how utterly irrelevant the technology is, and how desperately they want people to keep talking about it.

I fired up Fortnite in 4K and confidentially set all Ray tracing options to ultra on my 3080, after all it’s only a cartoon right?

Wrong! 15fps!

I think it about sums up where we are with Ray tracing at the moment!
+1

The RT hardware is very weak from both companies currently and even if they double the performance for next gen cards, it will still be weak. Exponential growth is needed for quite a few gens if we are to get somewhere, unless they manage even better software solutions.

Yeah maybe I should have worded my post better.

Nvidia's implementation won't last long when there is an open source method, which can be used by all vendors as isn't "DLSS" nvidias closed source version of what is basically AI super sampling?

I hope you are right but I heard something similar a few years back about G-Sync and being replaced by open source alternatives. We will see, I think Nvidia will find ways to keep it relevant and people will lap it up because Nvidia.

Gsync did die too, tbh, it died rather quick even after a year iirc, there must have been about 10 free/adaptive sync monitors for every gsync monitor back then, now it must be something like 20 free/adaptive sync monitors for every 1 gsync monitor :p

Nvidia gpus work with free/adaptive sync and just call any monitors, which support it, "gsync compatible" now.

That's the thing though. They just twisted it and tried to absorb the freesync spec into their nonsense proprietary implementation. G-sync still seems to be pretty freely available even now too, proper G-Sync I mean :p.

Well, BF5 and Cyberpunk look pretty stunning to me with RTX on. Reasonable frame rates too, at 1440. It's the reflections that get me, not just the shadows. Can't wait to see what it dos to Hitman 3.

also dont forget amd's raytracing implementation is even weaker than nvidias. dont hear people complaining about that though. probably because amd knows its crap and dont put the hype on it like nvidia do.

AMD is just a gen behind, kinda a shame as was planning to pair up a card with 5800x cpu. It'll be the same next gen as well, AMD getting to 3 series RT performance and nividia one up. Think it'll be 2-3 gens to get performance parity between them.

People love to jump to AMD's defense and think people are hating on them but it's their first attempt at RT both on the hardward and software side - they just aren't going to be anywhere near NVIDIA. Same with DLSS, NVIDIA have a ton of experience in the AI and ML space, whereas AMD are still relatively new to it.

RTX ray tracing such wow...........

:o :p

TBF though, there are some areas where RTX ray tracing does look hugely better.

Ok, forgot to disable fullscreen optimisation (new patch which put the .exe setting back to default) so that was lowering fps a bit more than usual! Some more quick comparisons between rtx on and off if anyone is interested, this is same scene as above but after turning fullscreen optimisation off:

Just rtx reflections on and lighting to medium with dlss to quality and SSR set to high.
