Here we go again!! Another knife attack.

The deterent needs to increase..

Caught carrying knife with no legal or arguable reason in public place = 2 years
Wield knife with intent but no injury = 5 years
Penetrating injury = 10 years
Death from stabbing = Life

I remember Tony Blair saying "tough on crime.. tough on the causes of crime" many years ago but that hasn't deterred much
Because like most of the crap he said he came out with he didn't mean it

How many have happened on the busiest ( most drunken ) night of the year in the UK .
.

I do recall this being quite common occurrence during the 70s and 80s to the point that in the end most of Trafalgar square was cornered off on NYE.. which then encouraged rebels and even more trouble.

So the question is, is it really more now days? or is it media making it more apparent?

Another implies more than one.

You'll be busy listing every assault that happens tonight.

A man with a 1 foot long knife shouting "Allah" and stabbing 3 people, are you serious? He wasn't drunk, it wasn't an assault, he attempted to hack to death multiple random people at a train station

Interesting that some people are playing this down; this was a terrorist attack.

Anyone guilty of terrorist activities should be locked up and once the sentence served be stripped of any UK nationality.

The 'peaceful' religion strikes again.

That was many years ago and crime did start to decrease. Say what you want about Blair's New Labour but they did increase budgets and personnel.
Because like most of the crap he said he came out with he didn't mean it
Unfortunately the Tories came to power and slashed the budgets for the police and the prison services so really they are to blame for the last 8 years. although I doubt you have much good to say about them either.
We have a national news agency?
The daily mail?

Which area would you like to cut to fund more Policing? Bearing in mind we're still running a budget deficit

Because at that point it hadn't been declared as terrorism-related by the police; now it has.

Do we need to wait for the Police to declare things a terrorist attack, is that what journalism is? If someone is stabbing people and a BBC reporter hears him shouting "Allah" and "death to the west", do we need the Police to confirm it's a terrorist attack?

Yes.

It wasn't a reporter, it was a BBC 5 live producer. They aren't journalists.

Journalism isn't reporting things that the government states, that might be what you think it should be, the attack was clearly a terrorist attack and did not need declaring so by the Police.

BBC 5 live producer Sam Clack, who had been at the station at the time, said he saw a man stabbed on a tram platform at the station "feet from me".

Mr Clack also said he heard the knifeman shouting "Allah" during the attack, along with a slogan criticising Western governments.
