ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO Motherboards Might Have A Serious Defect, Several Reports of Boards Burning Up

I hope this isn't true .

Not good, though wonder that the failure rate is compared to other motherboard manufacturers. The Maximus Hero range is incredibly popular, so would have had many more reports by now if it was a very widespread issue.

Mine's been rock solid since I built it a month ago, and has had a thorough hammering. Used 3 different memory kits, upto 6400Mhz overclocked speed, no issues thus far.

That sure looks like voltage regulator, but for what...
Though basing on error codes it's for memory.

While DDR5 has final voltage regulation on DIMM, there might well be some earlier "rough" regulation.
Maybe DDR5 isn't as ready for mainstream as advertised and board makers still need some work to get hang of it...
Or is board overvolting something causing higher power draw than those really tiny package MOSFETs can handle?

People seem to be commenting on no motherboard standoffs...

"Went to the ROG thread and somebody brought up a point about his first pic:"

"That board looks awful close to the case :p
And why no upper middle screw?
"

"Is that a wood screw?"

That is clearly user error and user has no idea what a motherboard standoff is, also the area burned up is different to the other ones with the memory vrm going pop. Above is a short due to not using standoffs and the right screws clearly.

How does one do that... You get all the screws with the case as you do with all the standoffs. Including the manual.

The most ridiculous case I know of recently was a single user getting Corsair's entire 2021 RMx line removed for weeks because they thought it was a good idea to drill holes in the PSU.

jonnyGURU: "In Sweden, some guy used a 1" long mounting screw on a PSU, drove it right into the PCB and it shorted out the PSU. Reported us to the government."

That's terrifying!
Guess you never read these...

One day a customer called complaining that he just received his computer, but it won't turn on. When he first pushed the power button, the screen flashed and then everything died.

I couldn't do much over the phone, so I went to the customer's office. It was plugged in, everything was hooked up ok, but, sure enough, it refused to turn on. I decided to take it back and promised to deliver a new one as soon as possible. But when I went to pick it up, I couldn't.

Fearful of thieves, the man had fired some 24 inch bolts straight through the box, through the hard drive, motherboard, everything, locking it to his desk.

"Oh," he said, "I thought it was just the TV part that was important. Will my warranty cover this?"
