Hero 690 boards burning up

Funny in a way... As in since all the shortages, Covid, lockdowns, shortage of parts, factories locked down, it seems to be lots of parts failing or rushed from such high demands or corners cut? EVGA with certain components on their cards ended up with no video output. Gigabyte with the exploding power supplies, NZXT with the dodgy manufactured riser cables and now Asus with certain motherboards and faulty parts... What next?

Funny how also Jay never got ripped into Asus unlike how he does on Gigabyte.
Don't forget the Acer monitors reported by GN.

Not a widespread issue yet, but only time will tell.
I guess the issue is the lack of components, allied to manufacturers trying to cash in, anything (components) available is used.

Be funny if there is a second silent revision which requires that polarised cap in a different orientation.

Not sure really if we should expect a response from Asus during the holidays, hoping people that buy those kind of boards would have spotted the threads about this, bit of a ticking timebomb otherwise.

Wonder how retailers will act if Asus don't so anything publicly? Hopefully GN get involved...

The potentially affected Z690 Hero units are all from 2021 with part nr 90MB18E0-MVAAY0 and serial nr starting with MA, MB, or MC."

But of a nightmare eh!

Glad ASUS publicly admitted/reported this during the holidays. Not like Gigabyte, that refuses to admit fault with exploding PSU’s etc...

So far appears to just be a batch released in North America. I believe I was one of the first with a Z690 Hero from OCUK during the first stock drop, my part number/serial is much later than the serial numbers/part numbers identified so far. Would be good to know if anyone on this forum gets a faulty board from UK assigned stock.

Would be great to know a final count of how many boards were made with this defect worldwide. Maximus Hero boards are the most popular high end boards by far, so the fact more boards haven’t gone pop yet may indicate a very small batch.

I wonder if that will speed up the cashback for people who are waiting for it, or maybe they'll just end up with a refund. :p

Mines has been great no issues at all thank god. Really enjoying this setup mote future proof than than the 9700k I had.
