Hero now or wait ...

Posting from my hero which I'm still loving! Endless customization potenti!l as I'm still finding out!

i am enjoying my hero after a week of usuage...awesome bit of kit and does everything i want and more...keep finding lots of little apps which are awesome and just got copilot going aswell which looks good! Not finding it very slow as everyone makes it sound but can see where an extra bit of grunt would help on media intensive websites, but still dont find it a hinderance!

I think you are mad but enjoy it anyway.

Why? Its the same as computer hardware, theres always soemthign around the corner and you never know if itll be any good. You could wait until after xmas and find out all of the new stuff is not that good as expected and slap yourself for not upgrading earlier. Personally, from the amount of praise that the Hero has been given I really cant see how its not a safe bet to go with, as bar the camera its pretty much bang on for everything as far as im concerned.

The Hero is a decent handset I agree, however with phones with better CPU's/cameras around the corner (Jan/Feb) I think its worth the wait considering the length of contracts. Personally I find its lack of video format support (which wont be resolved with such a CPU), poor camera and slight slowness at times to make me wait for the next iteration of Android phones - that or the N900.

And others that are far superior.. N900, Droid, HTC HD2 (although admitedly it does use WiMo).

N900/N97 - Dont like Nokias OS's, dunno why I just dont like them.

Droid/DEXT - Had a few Motorolas and they spend more time being sent off to be fixed than actually owning them.

HTC HD2/TD2 - Nice bit of kit, but Ive just used WinMo for the last 18 months and its too clunky and fiddly. If you want something to fiddle with and be quite geeky with then its great, but as phone they are annoying as hell to live with after a while IMO.

Its a personal thing really, but theres reasons why id avoid most of the 'better' phones in the range.

Oh I agree.. apart from the CPU, screen size/res, memory size, updated OS and camera.;)

Another reason Id avoid a lot of the mentioned devices is I liek to have some form of off scren control, such as a D-pad, trackball or something like that, so for me screen size is moot point, I owned the original touch diamond so any touchscreen is bigger than that :p

Again, updated OS, its been announced that the hero isnt getting 1.6 as its going straight over to 2.0 so that doesnt really bother me at all.

Christo you are talking a teeny bit of rubbish there.

I think you used a Hero before the update? It was sluggish and laggy before that. Now it is as smooth as silk and I dont think many if any people complain of slowdowns now?

What makes the Hero great is the SenseUI over the top of android, IMO android itself is a bit barren and boring. I don't think I'd like regular Android now matter how fast the CPU is in the handset.

Bottom line is that the Hero is the best handset available right now and I am not seeing anything to beat it in the foreseeable future.

well got the Hero today and i have to say it's bloody brilliant....

I'm well happy... the chin isn't as big as I thought (which was my main gripe) and actually I quite like it! Overall brilliant phone, I can see why its been getting so much praise

The N97 has a completely different OS to the N900 (It has a new OS for mobile phones). I agree I dislike WiMo OS's too actually. When comparing hardware, the Hero just isnt the best, however it has a good OS I agree.

The Hero has an underpowered CPU - when browsing this shows at times (especially flash sites). When multitasking it can slow (even with latest firmware). This also shows in its media playback capabilities - eg it cant play say 700mb avi files (where more recent phones can). Its camera/video is poor. Battery life is poor. I could go on. Personally think the next gen of Android handsets will be killer. Over the N900, HTC HD2 hardwarewise it cant compare. Im certainly not disputing its a good phone, but I think your bottom line is a little biased.

yeah, i have a hero and i dont think its as good as people say.

Its a good phone, but not great. It is fairly laggy and browsing is slow compared to iPhone.

I am tempted to get HD2.
