right so i got all caught up in the hype earlier today and managed to get myself a gd65 i think?;)

problem is i did not have time to reaserch the 750 i5 cpu. Would it give me much of a gain over my current system in my sig??

trying to work out if i should sell of my rig and go i5 750 got the hitch now:rolleyes: or wait a little and see what happens to i5 prices... any foreseeable changes ahead with the £?

I'm not so sure - I have a Q6600 and would love to upgrade to an I5/I7 just not sure if its really going to give any noticeable performance benefit

currently my setup is 6gb RAM + Q6600 + 3.5 gig (at 1.55V)

would like lower temps - but thats not worth the 300 it would cost to upgrade

I have a 4890 at the moment I think money would be better spent with a new 58xx ATI card later in ht eyear + a SSD OS drive

those would give more benefit than an upgrade of mobo/cpu ? Correct?

I was thinking the same thing, there will be a lot of people with highly clocked Q6600's and stuff. Personally, I don't think it'll be worth the jump. (I'm currently clocked at 3.75Ghz).

I'm with Buckster, and personally think perhaps a SSD a new ATi card and perhaps 2Gb more RAM will be better. :)

Then maybes upgrade to the new AMD 6 Core CPU next year..... who knows!

Yep, in a similar boat here... E6600 at 3.4~ with 4Gb RAM and a GTX 280..

Decided not to upgrade just yet, hopefully that's a wise choice :p

It's the nature of the computer hardware scene that *upgrades* will always be tempting you . . . you just need to decide if now is the right time for you! :)

Intel® Core™ i5/i7 on the LGA1156 platform looks wicked and have basically retired LGA775 Intel® Core™2 Quads in terms of new upgrades . . . . however today is just the beginning of the LGA1156 roll out and there is lots of new processors still to come including the first 32nm Westmere chip, there is also talk of a new LGA1156 chipset around xmas so I think unless your an upgrade freak :p it may be worth hanging around for a while and watch developments!

I'm think Xmas could be a nice time to upgrade!

I personally think the i5 750 will be an excellent upgrade for all those who posted here. Its reasonably cheap , Powerful and the newest tech. You would all notice a decent performance boost. Think too, these will clock up to the 4ghz mark with a decent cooler and mobo.

Ditch s775 while you can still get some $ for it.

At 150 quid the Q6600's will plummit in price very soon in the second hand market,

Ive decided to go the i7 route, saying that though the i5's look very good so far from what little ive read about them.

I don't think the Qs will go down much more than th 75-80 they go for now

if I sold my lot I'd hope for about 180 quid for the mobo (P5B Deluxe), Q6600 and RAM (6gb Reaper 8500) - perhaps thats over optimistic ?

Yeah i agree. While you can cash in on your current parts pretty well i would. I just built this i7 rig im using. I previously had Q9550 setup that was no slouch. Managed to raise like 60% of the funds for a i7 setup. No bad really. Im sure if i had the same internals now id get nowhere near the same price i did a few months back. Especially with the reasonably priced i5 750 and budget motherboards around.

I have an asus p6t dlx v2 x58 board sitting in its box, may get shot of my current cpu, motherboard and ram to help fund the purchase of an i7 920 and 6gb of ram.

This is my intention.

I'm basically "away from it all" for the next month with holidays, moving house, work etc so I wont have my PC anyway.

During this time I'll be selling off all my socket 775 kit (3 high end mobos, quad, dual, 8gb ram etc etc - keep your eyes peeled on the MM :p) and then going for another month or so with no gaming/high end machine - with the added benfit of stopping me procrastinating and being able to crack on with some long overdue jobs.

Hopefully 2 months down the line the release prices on i5 and 5870's will have dropped a little, just in time for a new PC to keep me entertained through the long, dark winter.

Good plan;)

May have to go about pricing up my current bits and bobs to see what theyre worth, ive got an x58 board but no cpu or ram as yet, may have to revert to my old s939 machine for a few days if i do get rid of my s775 kit.

i dont think the q6600 chips will drop that much you can still sell a second hand 1 for 100 and im gonna sell mine at the end of the month of ebay someone will want it

A while back £100.00 would have been a decent price, thats what i sold mine for (3.8ghz capable lapped chip) ive seen them going for about £80-90 now, will probably steadily get lower with the release of i5.

yeah poeple want a bargain.

65 will be realistic for a Q6600 in a few weeks in MM

Q9450 is £130 on OcUK .... crazy crazy price... Worth every penny

If you're going to stick with S775 - take that whilst you can and try bumping your system with SSDs/good overclock - That'll keep you going for another year.

This is actually what I'm going... I get tired of re-installing windows for a new build

However if you're tired of your system then it might be a good time to get your skates on.
