Well I have just recently gotten into photography and I love it, I would post my work for some pointers and criticism but I have already got loads of it and only one or two photos wouldent do it justice, anyway, I upload all my stuff onto deviantART which I love. Am I able to post a link to my DA gallery for criticism, here?

Im going to start putting it all in my own gallery on my own website too, now is there anything I should know before I do this? Like should/can I put copyright stuff on my work, should I put a logo of my own on everything I upload or can I just leave it bare, basicly what are the safety steps, if there is any and what is a good gallery CMS to use? Im looking at Coppermine but I might want something a little simpler, I tired wordpress but that is no good for it.

Thanks in advance, wizard

twenty three views and no help, great stuff..

 Whine more?

1. With an arsey attitude nobody will help you, and rightly so. Try to be patient and at least wait for morning, a MIDNIGHT post and you expect the whole forum to post replies by 1am?? Get a grip

2. Why would we take extra effort to go to your DA page, check each photo, then comment here? Post them up here for us so we dont have to go to the extra effort, and you might just get some help - very few here have the time/inclination to fart about with your links if you can't take the time to post pictures here.

3. ..............when was the last time you made any comments on someone elses photo?

4. Once more:

1.If you actually read my post instead of skipping past it because im not a familiar face in this forum you would see that I dont have an 'arsey' attitute.
Like I said 'Twenty Three Views' does it matter if its midnight? Twenty three people still skipped past my topic. In real life ignoring someone is rude.

2.Why would you take any effort to go to my Deviant ART page? Well if you read my post I clearly stated why, and if 'effort' means clicking on a link that takes you directly there so that you can see all my work instead of one or two of my best things to get a good opinion of my stuff which I stupidly thought wasnt a bad thing to do.

3. Whats that got to do with anything? Im new in this forum, maybe you lot are a sensitive buch but that is no reason to take it out on me, I thought youd be happy to help out someone just getting into to photogoraphy as a hobby, but no your rather play out your little forum games.
And since i JUST got into it, it would be rather stupid of me to comment on peoples photos, considering 99% of the time spent on OCUK I didnt even own a camera!

I think, moody old englishman you are the one that needs to "take a chillpill" I will delete my post and take my business to a better photogoraphy forum.
This is obviously a complicated place not to get a hard time in, which you just proved.

I realise you're not going to read this seeing as you've gone to a better forum but your thread title wasn't exactly specific, was it? You want some advice? On what exactly? Maybe 23 people stumbled in here thinking you wanted advice on lenses?

In terms of a CMS have you looked at Gallery?

I'm gonna interrupt here ;)

Ok, so does that mean that every single thread you open you reply to, if you don't are you being rude to them?

2.Why would you take any effort to go to my Deviant ART page? In all fairness, you could have done both, something like

"Hello, blah blah blag,

here's a couple of my best, the rest of my work is here....."

3. Whats that got to do with anything? Im new in this forum, maybe you lot are a sensitive buch but that is no reason to take it out on me, I thought youd be happy to help out someone just getting into to photogoraphy as a hobby, but no your rather play out your little forum games.

That's a little harsh, we are all happy to help/comment/advise/admire work on here, that's why we do it.

And since i JUST got into it, it would be rather stupid of me to comment on peoples photos, considering 99% of the time spent on OCUK I didnt even own a camera!

No it wouldn't be stupid of you. Just because you just got into photography, that doesn't make you stupid or unable to say whether you like the picture or not. Your not expected to give a page of critique, nobody is, heck when I post my work I just do it to see peoples opinions and encourage people to give honest critique but if someone says "nice one" or "that's crap" either way I'm happy as their opinion is honest. If they give a reason for that opinion, which can be anything in the pictue, then great.

I think, moody old englishman you are the one that needs to "take a chillpill" I will delete my post and take my business to a better photogoraphy forum.

Suit yourself, you know your more than welcome here, there are indeed better photography forums, but you'll soon find yourself posting the same pics on more than one forum, plus this one is one of the more popular ones.

This is obviously a complicated place not to get a hard time in, which you just proved.

Your soooo wrong there.

Hey! Whats wrong with my attitude? :p

Wizard, having opened your page there seem to be quite a few good shots, but agree with everybody else so you should select a few which you like the most and post them on this forum for people to comment. Maybe select 4-5 photos which you would like comments on.

I dont think the comment required such a condascending reply. He could have just meant it as an impatient reminder for those who were still online at the time to comment, even to perhaps say, can you give us a little more info.

His angry reply was not called for, and his initial post was a little blunt but also think the reply was a bit over the top.

I'm not going to comment on your photos but I will help you with some of the rest of the stuff, if you are still here of course. ;)

Firstly watermarks. As long as the work is your own you can stick a copyright watermark on it. In the UK at least, you own the copyright to anything you take (excluding a couple of clauses, but they don't matter to you) so anyone using your photo without permission can get into trouble. My suggestion would be to stick a smallish (asthetically pleasing) distinguishing mark in the corner of your work, something like your name or website. Don't make it huge or stick it through the centre of your image as it ruins it and can make it hard to judge the image.

What you have to realise is that it is relatively easy to remove a watermark with the clone tool in PS so it is not a foolproof way of protecting your photos, but at least if someone links to it without removing the watermark it shows it's yours. And removing the watermark to use the picture wouldn't go down well in the courts if someone was to take your photo (as it shows intent).

Another safety tip is don't upload images that are huge, unless for a specific reason upload images at about the 800x600 size, big enough to view on a computer screen but too small to print.

As for gallery software other options include Gallery 2 (which I use) and simplegal (which as the name suggests is very simple to use and view. :)

Ooops, sorry Arsey! :D

Wizard, damned if I'm going to make sure I reply to every single topic I open, thankyouverymuch. What an utterly ludicrous notion.

And don't take my affront at your impatience/rudeness as a measure of the forum (you drama queen), I'm just one user, and will express only my own opinion, I certianly will not to speak for anyone else, certainly not an entire forum... you can go somewhere "better" if you like, I'll live.

Plenty of people here would be glad to help you, arsey or not. I was merely highlighting that I will not, and why - this is no 'little forum game' (lol?), it's advice on how you could make your threads that tiny bit more appealing.

You are though, just like everyone else, you represent the photography forum. You are right, plenty of good people are here and they are willing to lend a helping hand. Too bad you are not one of them, you got to me first and aulthough my thread is far from perfect, you soiled my opinion of the forum and I no longer feel welcome.

Also I may look like a bit of a drama queen, but who was the first one to make a big deal about my 'impatience/rudeness', you. Look who is helping keep this thing going, you. Your just as bad as me.

Okay.

Shall we move on then?

I think some of your shots are pretty good, some of the artier ones (fields, brown wood, door lock).
But you may be looking for art where there isn't any, the taps for example just strike me as being quite devoid of interest.

On the good shots your composition is good, and they look well exposed.
Why don't you pick some you like the most and post them here (or elsewhere if you must) for a deeper analysis? Wide sweeping comments on the majority have their place, but specific comments can be very useful too.

I haven't read all of the posts in the thread...I'm rude.

Please be patient mate. You will find that people will! reply to your thread. Help here comes in qauntity I can at least say that about this place. An attitude like the one you started with is just gonna egg people on NOT to help you. So take a step back and just wait and help will come.

Its worth noting that your probably clicking refresh many times over and thats pumping up your views so just don't be so hesitant to moan when no one is obliged to help anyone here anyway.
