High Definition PC Gaming

All we need now is for someone to post a screenshot of the dead pixel on their wallpaper and another to ask how they enable 64 bit colour on their new OS.

LOL, PCs have had "HD" gaming for years - HD is only 1080 lines isn't it? So as long as you've been able to run games in a vertical resolution of >1080 you've been "HD"

PC > Consoles see? :D

Not really, 1080 is 1920x1080 resolution. So, unless you're using a 23 or 24 inch panel you really haven't been playing in full HD.

Aye - those old 15" TFT monitors from days of yore were higher than 720P - makes me smirk that some people console users have suddenly got the edge.

No they wern't. They ran at 1024x768 which works out at 786,432 pixels in total. 1280x720 is 921,600 pixels in total.

True I suppose, effectively HD gaming is only just taking shape on a true scale for PC games, but PC games have been running over SD resolution (720x576) for ages.

????????

HD has sod all to do with pc gaming. It's about TV's and (arguably) consoles. All it means is telly's can now do better than the crappy old 576i picture. Monitors have been capable of this for donkey's years. What the hell do you think HD gaming is and why do you think it's only just taking off?????

Holy way to throw a wobbly Batman!

He's just saying that a resolution of 1920x1080 needs a TFT monitor that is very large and they have only recently (relatively) become available. The same goes for graphics cards that can actually run modern games at that resolution, they have only recently appeared.

There have been monitors available that would do over that for years now, way before TFTs were commonplace.

Yes I know, but that was before games supported that resolution.

Remember people we're talking about games here.

:edit: Raikiri your sig's filesize is over the maximum allowed of 20KB.

Here it is a little more compressed

I may have gone slightly overboard if he was referring specifically to 1080 res (apologies) but HD does not necessarily mean 1080P so to say that high-def gaming is only just taking off is mis-leading.

You guys realize that the vast majority of console HD games are 720 native? The 1080i games are upscaled. The poxy 1280x720p mode is still less than 1280x1024, one of the most popular and long lasting resolutions in PC gaming (it has been used since the days of Quake deathmatch).

Consoles are still in the stone age regarding 'HD'.
