Any incompatibilities with this setup? Anything that can be improved for a few quid?

cheers,

If it was me I would get a better psu incase i want to upgrade to sli or for wen graphics cards are gonna require more in the future. Also I would maybe raid 0 a couple, if not 4 hdds.

Edit: And if I had the money I would go for 4gig ram with vista 64, people say its not worth it but imo i think it is

Hey EzyRyder I've been doing some digging because from by the looks of things you may be considering SLI in the future correct? Looking at the BENCHMARKS for the 8800's in SLI i don't see a huge difference @ benchmark, well not worth paying double for 2 of them in any case.

Saying this because the P5N32 tends to have horrible memory issues and compatiblity issues.

Would you consider dumping the SLI mobo and selling the 8800 and buying a newer card in the future?

I'l go make a spec :)

I'd swap the PSU for the Corsair PSU of your choice. I'd also change the case for something that cools a bit better as quads and GTXes pump out a lot of heat. An Akasa Eclipse 62 would do spectacularly. I'm not too hot on that motherboard either. A P35 board like the Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P would be a more future-proof choice and should handle the quad better.

Personally I'd swap the Q6600 for a Xeon X3210 and overclock to make up the difference.

How about this:

You can use the remaining money for the OS and peripherals of your choice. :)

You might want some memory with some tighter timings than you got down there. Check out this stuff: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-058-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813

Its the cheapest C4 memory on ocuk

I would agree with this however the Intel processors tend to benefit very little from the tighter timings. The Giel RAM is very good at stock, but one of the worst overclockers.

I would say the Ballistix PC5300 or the G. Skill PC6400 HZ. Both amazing kits for clocking.

This is my spec for the components, rest is up to you.

Edit: + same optical in Billy's spec.

Edit: Change PSU for the 520W version, forgot no SLI

First of all, thank you for all the replies!

This computer is not for me, it is for a friend from work that needs some help.

Now the answers:

He wants a Quad Core because he wants to be future proof.
We are not looking at overclocking, really. It is quite simple. He doesn’t understand a great deal of it and it can be quite messy if you do not know what you are doing.
About the PSU. Why the Corsair if its rated 620W instead of the 650W from Antec I have chosen. And if I am going to go for a more expensive brand why not Tagan instead?
About the motherboard and SLI, yes you were right! :o) We were planning to do some SLI action. If you say it’s not worth it might be good to move onto one on the new P35 mobos.
Is it really necessary to change the memory if we are not OC?

Cheers,

Here hows this:

LG L226WTQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk

Intel Xeon 3200 Series X3210 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.13GHz (1066FSB)

Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit X2

Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music 7.1 Soundcard - OEM

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM X2

Samsung SH-S182MBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer LightScribe ReWriter

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU

Total : £1,581.33

The option is their if you would want to overclock in the furture, read up on it a bit, its pretty striaght forward. Just take your time.

The Corsair is one of the top PSUs and you cant go wrong with it.

You will find it very very hard to notice the difference between 5300 and 6400 Memory. When and if he decides to overclock, the Crucial stuff will clock to 800MHZ 3-3-3-12, no problem at all.

From Jaffa, yours is DDR2 only. Would it be a good idea to have 4Gigs in two sticks and then upgrade to DDR3? I have seen a few benchies and DDR3 didnt seem worthwhile.

Also that Akasa case is very good but requires to spend some extra money on fans.
