Hi, I am planning on ripping all of my dvd collection and storing it on my medai server, what i want to do is keep it as high quality as possible, i don't really want to convert it to divx, is there any good software that will work on vista prem 64bit, take advantage of dual core's and will convert a dvd into a single VOB file?.

Thanks

yeh true, not going to encode although may dabble in it a little later but mainly want to rip the dvd into a single VOB file.

Thanks

Of course it does
The DVD Standard states that VOB files cannot be bigger than 1GB, so FAT16 would work fine. No released DVD has a VOB size bigger than 1GB.

If you want to keep things tidy and exact then tell your ripping program to rip the DVD with no compression into a single image file like an ISO!

anydvd (install this, but don't use the ripper)
dvd decrypter in ifo mode, disable splitting in the options..

you could also look at ratdvd

sorry guys i should have told you exactly what i want to do, I am currently running Orb 2.0 on my media server and accessing the media files through the Xbox 360 (not logging into media center on it though), the reason i want 1 VOB file is that the xbox does nto recognize a dvd folder but will play a single vob file, also im not sure it recognises ifo files.

will this mymovies.dk work like this, does it automatically mount the iso?

Thanks

I did something like this but used Guardian Knot & encoded them to XviD.
I cant even tell the difference between my XviD & DVD versions, there's no quality loss in my eyes.
Takes about an hour on my rig to convert a 90 min film, it unfortunately doesn't take advantage of dual core :(

I certainly can tell the difference when the movie is 700MB. Even at 1.4GB. On a smaller screen (28"-32" CRT) I think 1.4GB will be fine.

as i said above

dvddecrypter can rip a film to 1x vob file, use 'ifo mode', it'll scan the ifo's on the disc and copy the vob to your hard drive, can play it by simply opening the vob in your media player
