well I was used to a nice low ping of aound 30 to uk servers on steam (cs,css & tft2) but now its at 80 thats worse than BT. I loaded up the o2 assistant and chatted to someone who was quite hopeless and refused to help stating we dont change ping times??? I continued to explain that this issue started recently after the router reset and gave me a new ip 93.96...... I seemed to be getting nowhere fast and he kept on saying please tell me how would I fix it if he could do nothing (very condisending). I ended the sesion as I was getting annoyed, presented a tracert to this man & he continued to ignore the issue.

router is at the master & the pc is connected to it via a cable & not wireless so I cant explaint these results. Please can someone suggest what to do or shall I just ring them & explain.

is this the router causing this? or the ip I was assigned?

Kev!

What's the issue here, the fact the router takes ~90ms to respond?
There's nothing really wrong with that traceroute.

so its the router thats the issue then, what can I do to change this. I've got a bt 2700hgv with the singtel firmware on it but not sure how to set it up unlike my netgear. Anyway fastpath is not an option as my line has alluminium in it & that plays havoc with things.

I'm not saying it is an issue - most routers have better things to do with their time than respond to pings, so it's given a low priority...

I think the issue is that he's pinging over 30 to their network, whereas normally Fastpath Be Unlimited (I'm assuming O2 is the same) connections used to give a lot lower.

That looks fine to me, my router (Speedtouch 580) Doesn't like responding to pings in a timely fashion, either.

I think the issue is that he's pinging over 30 to their network, whereas normally Fastpath Be Unlimited (I'm assuming O2 is the same) connections used to give a lot lower.

Considering the destination is supposed to be in the US (Although, I've never seen a ping <80ms to the US), that's an impressive ping.

I get ~30ms to google and 14ms to bbc.co.uk, he needs to traceroute/ping bbc.co.uk for a better representation.

For comparison:

You'd do better to use bbc.co.uk for testing ping/traceroute's

Ithink a ping of 80 to a uk server that was once 30 shocking so it must be the router, lets try the netgear or this 2wire and see

Depends where you are. The first hop I get (after the router, on Be) is the OP's fifth, which is in London. The further you are from there the worse it's going to get, not counting what I said before about routers not processing ICMP with any great priority.

Are you sure it isn't the server, or something in between? A trace to the server in question might be more helpful...

make sure you assign the games you play in the router this helps with disconnection while playing.the only sure way to lower your ping is fastpath but if it is not possible then your out of luck maybe change isp or killer nic anyone:D:D:D

I'm on O2 and I'm also getting slightly higher pings today. Normally I get pings in the 20's to UK servers, but at the moment I'm getting 50+ so there must be an issue somewhere.

even with interleaving my ping was 30ish which is what it was on my 2mb bt fixed line(fast) so this is not interleaving

I am getting higher pings today.

Usually I would get a ping of 25ms to bbc.co.uk

In COD4 all the pings should range from 30-110ms.

Latency has increased by up to five times as much usual here in Newcastle as well.

To be fair it's first problem I've had with Be* in the 2 years I've been with them, still, I hope it's not a sign a sign of things to come as I don't really fancy the idea of jumping ship.

o2 1st line support have a list of tracerts and ping tests and they stated its unusual & its on 2nd level now :) so lets see what i get :)

Theres a lot of people reporting the same problem over on the Be* forums so it seems its a widespread issue as im having the same problem today although its started to go back down to normal now but it is still higher than it should be.
