Higher vram vs better card?

More specifically, the 2GB GTX 560 Ti or the 1.25GB GTX 570.

Can someone explain to me the difference, like the pros and cons of each?

Is the 570 a better choice overall?

Cheers,

Joe.

Sorry, completely forgot about that :D

1080p

About £280

8gb GSkill RipjawsX
Corsair HX850 PSU
120GB OCZ Vertex 3
1TB WD Caviar Black

You would always choose the stronger card over the card with more vram.

The ony advantage vram has is the ability to load larger amounts of textures and possibly better for AA etc.... but the raw grunt still needs to be there, to take full advantage of it.

570 definetly better than the 560 2gb.

Unless you're applying very high AA, mod texture packs and demanding very high minimum frames per second then I don't think it honestly really matters what you go for. Since you can overclock the 570 beyond what an overclocked 560 can attain, I'd probably suggest one of those, even though I usually hear that the 560 is the better overclocker relatively.

gtx 570 all the way..
or like stated, why not go for the 6970??

benchmarks show the 6970 gives slight better fps on high resolution.

The 570 has more stream processors than the 560ti, these are what will make the card last longer.
Always go for the best "chip" you can afford, not "card".

I would go for the 6970, but I do some 3D stuff aswell as photoshop (main use is gaming, however). I thought (I might be/probably am wrong) that nvidia had a reputation for having a better performance when it comes to that kind of thing.

I'm pretty much settled on a 570 now, unless there are any major reasons I should go for the 6970.

Thanks for the help, by the way.

What would be the better out of those listed above if playing at a resolution of 1920x1200?? and also for games that require lots of vram like BF3 and more than likely MW3?
Thanks

nvidia's cuda cores help in a fair few programs

560ti
Thanks

If you can afford the 570 then I'd go for it (and consider a 6970). I've always been of the opinion of buying as much brute force as possible for your money when it comes to gfx cards :)

In that case 460 SLI would be better as it has more brute force :)

If the programmed te op uses support cuda then an Nvidia card would be the best option :)

This may be the case.. I forgot to mention however that my opinion has changed slightly since I upgraded to a 4870x2, and that I feel crossfire is a pain in the *** to get consistent performance across a library of games and that only a single card be considered :D
