Highest reviewed Console games 2008 (so far) - Metacritic

GTA4 wasn't a terrible game, it just lacked a whole lot of content, but it also did not deserve the 10/10 it got from every review.

I think the problem was that there were no rewards for anything you did, meaning that there was less to do/dick around with after you finished the main story. I mean in earlier GTA's as you were finishing up the main story you could buy properties and do missions for them and once you finished them they rewarded you in some way be it either with a regular cash income or stuff like the Jetpack for finishing one of the airstrip missions etc

Same with the hidden packages, when you found all 100 and you got all sorts of goodies delivered to your hideouts, where as in GTA4 you have to kill 200 pigeons, thats right KILL with no form of silenced weapons in the game meaning that everytime someone is close by you have to leg it from the cops =/ And all you got was some **** helicopter that couldn't kill ****.

Also one thing I hate Rockstar for leaving out is the car modifications that you could do in SA, it would have been fantastic in GTA4 :(

Edit: Forgot to mention that the weapon variety was also severely lacking too.

No its FACT.

i am with you on this one, MGS4 was the most comprehensively brilliant game all year on any platform, it was one hell of a cinematic experience and a stunning end to the series!

on another note, i can't believe the piece of garbage called left 4 dead is in there! that game is sooooooooo unbelievably trashy

yes it was a good film just a shame there was 30min game play in it

A genuine 'lol' at Ikuraga in there.

Personally I prefer my games to be more fun and less 'trial and error' and learning levels off by heart. It's a chore of a game.

Good post, I agree entirely.

That reminds me i need to pick up grid to see what all the fuss is about - why did i sell my G25 :(

And GoW 2 when i've played the first one

GTA3 was fairly basic in comparison to SA.
GTA4 has set the scene for the next few GTAs by giving us an awesome game/physics engine. I can't wait for the next few games :)

I'm playing through GTAIV again at the minute and IMO it completely deserves to be at No1. It's a fantastic game - the only negative thing I can think of is the framerate problems.

GTA4 is the only game in the series to bore me - I got about 3/4 of the way through and gave up. The multiplayer was a huge missed opportunity.

I don't know if it was the dull baby sitting missions or the slow combat, but 1/5 of my time was spent doing fun stuff (car chases, shoot outs etc) and the rest being frustrated. GTA4 may have been a step forward in realism for the series, but it trashed the sandbox/fun element that made it so popular in the first place.
