Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

I'm looking for motorcycle pants and have been really impressed with the jacket I got from https://pandomoto.com/blog/product-by-tag/kevlar-motorcycle-pants-with-armor/. Does anyone have recommendations for good motorcycle pants? I'm looking for something that offers solid protection, comfort, and style. Any insights would be appreciated!
It's probably better to ask in our motorbike forum:

I also suggest mentioning what type of riding you will be doing (summer, winter, etc), whether you want the to be vented, whether you want A, AA or AAA levels of protection, what style of bike/jeans you're looking for (adventure style, commuting, modern classic, etc). Personally I love Rokker Legend riding jeans.

Anyone use "aftermarket" soles for their boots? I like my Altbergs but insoles really don't cut it so looking for something with extra comfort that won't break the bank.

I see Salomon Quest 4 GTX are £104.99 in Decathlon at the moment, just picked up a pair as things get toasty in the Altbergs when it's warm out.

Depends what you need.

I use Superfeet green, they're pretty stiff to support my deteriorating big toe joints.

I've pretty much given up on doing big mountain days anymore, really takes a toll...although I have just booked a week in Morocco later in the year for trad-climbing, the walkins aren't too bad though generally.

I've used sorbothane double strike to replace walking boot footbeds , which I also use in running shoes,
sorbothane also have a thin insole that I use in mountaineering boot;
if the double strikes become water logged they might need more drying out than typical mftr cellular isnole, but those don't absorb shock as well.

Not really hiking/backpacking as such, but since I couldn't find a general camping thread, this is probably the most appropriate.

Looking for a new family tent - we're going away at the end of August, so got our current 5 man (Coleman Mosedale 5) out to check over, and was reminded that it has a cracked pole, broken zip, and several tears/holes in the flysheet. All stuff that's relatively easy to repair, but it's a pretty cheap and cheerful tent anyway, and we seem to crack a pole every time we use it (appears to be a common issue if online reports are anything to go by).

Debating the merits of another cheap tent to last a couple of years again, vs paying a bit more for something which will last a lot longer.

I'd really like to go cotton/polycotton - the polyester ones are so stuffy, and basically unusable when it's hot; even worse when it's raining but muggy - you end up with the choice of going out and getting soaked in the rain, or staying in and getting soaked with sweat.

Was initially looking at a used Outwell - someone selling a Wolf Lake 5 not too far from me which seems to be the right size for us, polycotton, pretty cheap, however I just find tunnel tents so bland and ugly (plus a pain to put up.

Then I've done something stupid and started looking at bell tents, and almost pulled the trigger on a 5m one plus porch, for almost 4x the price . I love the look of them, how cosy and versatile they are, and how quick & easy to put up, but not so sure about the practicality side, and obviously there's the fact the packs are massive!

We don't tend to go to big campsites, more the quieter "nearly wild" basic sites, and maybe 2-3 times a year for a long weekend. I'm thinking if we had a nicer tent, we might try to make that more often.

TL;DR - polycotton tunnel vs bell tent for a family of 4 plus dog - thoughts from anyone who has tried both? Or just grab another cheap and cheerful option from Go Outdoors (I get a 15% discount) - the vanguard 6 in particular is a tempting option right now.

Anyone got any advice for re-glueing the sole of a shoe?

Accordingly to my Strava they've only done around 150 miles which is a little disappointing but they're out of warranty

Emailed Altra just to see if they had any suggestions around glue or to ask if there was a chance of repair given they've only covered around 150 miles even though a few months out of warranty. Their response was basically that it's a known fault with this particular model but tough luck. The new one doesn't have the defect so buy that instead.

Not sure i expected much given the scenario, but disappointing to be told it's a known issue and then not be offered even a small discount code or anything.
