Hiking, backpacking, trekking, mountaineering...

Injured my foot :( I was working a hard slab boulder move with a high step onto a small chip, with no handholds. Pretty sure I've got a small tear on my plantar fascia.

Don't fancy this turning into another chronic niggles so abandoning the Snowdonia weekend I was supposed to be leading.

This is my week off between jobs I was looking forward to....bah humbug

Fantastic weather this weekend. Unfortunately I'm at home keeping the dog company while he recovers from having his balls off .

Bet it was a great day for Pendle Hill, can imagine the views were fantastic. I've been up a few times but never had a completely clear view. The steep side is a good fitness test though!

Last time I did a circular route, going up from Barley to pass just above upper ogden Reservoir before heading north to the top. From there went round to the west and basically followed the ridge all the way back round, to descend back to Barley just south of Lower Ogden Reservoir. Was a nice route, even if some of the paths were very faint.

Lovely weekend, gutted I missed out on the club meet in Snowdonia. Ah well.

Did get out to Buxton and did a few sport routes at Harpur Hill, mooched around the peak, had some lunch, spent some money in Outside in Hathersage, the usual!

Foot feels ok climbing...just sore walking. Bloody thing.

Finally managed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks yesterday.

Weather was pretty much perfect for running around with only a bit of wind on the tops. Although that last climb did kill me a little up all those steps! Also went over on my ankle on the decent back into town which is annoying and stopped me running again today.

Had hoped for sub 6hrs but due to my ankle I think it was about 6:08 in total. Although Strava seems to say 5:38 moving time and doesn’t report much else.

Was worrying to see 2 girls in Nike Airs stop halfway up the middle hill (the tallest. Forgot it’s name!) They’d hit snow and we’re scared it was slippy. We managed to convince them to turn around as they were clearly unprepared. Can see how easily people can get into problems on the more difficult, higher climbs.

Nice one, not bad at all. I did ~5:50 total early June last year (it was absolutely roasting!). Those steps are a killer.

I assume you went from Horton? Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside then Ingleborough?

I'm hoping to do it again mid March. Walked it a few times but it's a great route if you want to get a full running workout.

Yeah that’s the route.

If I’m honest I preferred the first half for running. A decent build up to the climb to Pen-y-Ghent, then a nice short climb up and then a great section up to the Viaduct and towards Whernside.
From there it got a little busy on the climb up and then wasn’t a fan of the descent. I’m pretty rubbish at short steep descents and can never get a rhythm going and then after Ingleborough it was fairly rocky and technical and after turning my ankle I was pretty nervous and so moving quite defensively.

A great route though and glad I’ve finally ticked it off. Will definitely be heading that way again. How busy does it get in Sunmer? I imagine it can be annoyingly busy!

So Viewranger has been closed down and I've been shifted to outdoor active. My lifetime maps (had since 2010) are now a one year sub... At least it looks like I get 1:25k OS for the year whereas I only had 1:50 previously. Will see how I get on!

Yeh, it's really annoying as I loved Viewranger. Outdoor Active just doesn't seem quite as good. At least they've backtracked a bit now though so I can still view OS maps with it.

What do you use these apps for? Your own planning or finding others routes?

OS have their own app & subscription which might be better value. I used a trial just for one long running route and it wasn't bad. I don't use these things often enough to pay though, would rather just buy a physical map if I really needed (which come with redeemable codes for the OS app too).

I just use the OS app too. Has downloadable route GPX files for most mountain routes which is handy for putting on the Fenix.

I don't have a sub, just bought the physical maps for the areas I go and used the codes.

Guardian is a bit more descriptive on what the (exceptionality of) conditions were

Donald Paterson, the deputy team leader of the Lochaber team, said the conditions on the mountain were “classic Alpine – springlike in the glen but above the snow line everything is solid and an ice axe and crampons are essential, and knowing how to use them”.

He said: “This chap had fallen conservatively about 300 metres. Then others went to help him and they, too, ended up in trouble. One had a broken ankle and another multiple abrasions. As the night wore on, the conditions got worse.

“Members of the party could have been better prepared for the conditions. We would like to express our condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.”

My mate was out climbing on the Ben over the weekend and saw a guy fall a few hundred metres. Somehow he "only" broke a few bones so got pretty lucky!

I saw a post (presumably from your mate) on a facebook group saying they'd seen the fall and were trying to get an update from the individual.

Got my Spanish mountain run this weekend. Some of you may remember my posts about being completely unprepared for what was involved. I'm now much more confident having spent numerous weekends running in the Lakes and finishing off with a loop of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks last weekend.
How i'll be at scrambling after 40 miles is another matter but at least from a pure terrain point of view i feel i have a reasonable idea!

Wow that's come around quick. All the best, don't push to hard and enjoy it I say.
