History Assignment: What makes a building historically significant?

I'm in a grammar school, and our teacher expects us to get a level 6-7
I usally get a 6a-6c
all of our homework is graded :/

Those grades don't mean anything to me. From what you've written there are a few inaccuracies (such as every attempted escape failing) and you cover a few things in a sentence that you could easily expand on.

You seem be concentrating on 'the history of the Berlin wall' as opposed to answering why it Is significant, which is only in the last paragraph.

You should open with that paragraph, and then go on to defend your statement. The Berlin wall is a historically significant building because X, x and x. Give a comparison to another building and why it isn't significant, or is.

I would add more but I'm browsing on my phone!

Edit: the building you choose is irrelevant. The question asks you to discuss which factors make buildings historically significant.

Hope this helps :)

Ok, thanks for the detailed help
There is quite a lot of questions
Information on the design and visuals of the building
The construction of the building
Information about the people who built the building (how they lived?)
The purpose of the building/reasons why it was constructed
The historical significance of the building

Ummm how is a wall a building?

Surely the dictionary definition of a building doesn't cover a wall alone. A wall would be a structure, no?

what about the great wall of china, my teacher told us we can do any kind of structure. (including berlin wall) The Berlin Wall was a kind of building?

Oh if your teacher said any sort of structure then by all means do it. It's being slightly pedantic, but i'd tweak the title of the assignment to say structure as opposed to building if you're writing this up properly.

All about the attention to detail :)

Typically though a building is more a man made construction that is designed to offer some form of shelter from the elements, a structure can be any of those but also more broadly incorporates things such as bridges, walls, piers and the like.

I assume it's SATS style grades (although I only remember them being English, Science and Maths). Level 5 being about average and level 7 very good, with a Level 8 add-on if you are feeling really clever.

How was the Berlin Wall a distraction? (It wasn't)

If anything it signified the existence of the Cold War and a real reminder of its ongoing nature. Furthermore the fall of the Berlin Wall was a symbol for the end of the Cold War (historical significance).

Maybe start with Winston Churchill talking about the Iron Curtain in 1946 and how the Berlin Wall signified this.

And as said before, one of the main reasons that the Russians built the wall was to stopped skilled Eastern German workers escaping to the West for a better standard of living.
