I've had someone hit the back end of my st220. There is a revive center across the road who has kindly left the reg of the car that hit mine, but it's destroyed the back left off my bumper. How do I go about contacting the person or do I go insurance or police root ?

The reg is DV60 PUY

Contact police first, they will probably chase the car owner and the car itself. They will also ask you to goto nearest police station and report it there.
Take lots of pictures of your car and pictures of the accident scene include your car in the scene and its position in the scene with road itself.
If he/she hit you pretty hard goto hospital emergency or your doctor next day and get yourself examined. You might get pain around your neck or back in few days time or near enough to that.
Contact your insurance or any other claim company and explain what happened they will chase the rest for you. They might give you a courtesy car too if they believe other party is 100% at fault.

If you can get few witness that will help out a lot in your case...

First thing I'd do is get written details from whoever gave you the reg number.
Without something written down (in the absence of CCTV or other witnesses etc) and contact details for them, it'll be your word against the drivers.

You can write to the DVLA, but seeing as they've committed a crime (driving off from the scene of an accident), report on the police non-emergency number.

If they can find the other car and examine damage they can tell who is at fault. Considering he / she hit OP car from behind and runaway explains he / she is at fault unless driving illegally.

That's assuming the police investigate. The other driver may say something like "I was parked, and they reversed into me".
Which is where your witness statement comes in to save you from insurance ballache. Unfortunately insurance ballache isnt a claimable injury :)

Were you in the car at the time? If so, hope you're ok.

This happened to a colleague of mine he went into the local nick and the desk Sergeant did a DVLA check and rang them straight up and said, "you didn't leave scene of a road traffic accident without leaving details did you? That would be a crime. Would you like to speak to Mr X who's car you bumped" Put the willies up the other driver who immediately copped to being at fault.

I'd get a witness statement then see the police, who won't want to deal with it unless someone was hurt but might frighten the other person into action.

This happened to me a few years ago. I came back to find a damaged car and a note left by a witness. You can pay a few £ on the DVLA site to get the insurance details for any number plate.

I was at work at the time, car hasn't moved for over a week as been busy with work so no way they can claim it was me, I'll ring non emergency number tonight and get some clear pictures of my street. I can't be bothered with insurance just find it disrespectful that they left no note and took a bystander to see it and notify me. :(

yeah get this reported asap ,This happened to me taxi driver crashed into my parked car causing £1000+ worth of damage and just drove off a neighbour clocked him though and noted his reg i went to the police station myself and reported it with just his reg details and the neighbours address think they said he had 24 hours to report it be he did not , then it gets passed onto a PC to sort the police were brilliant took a while to sort but he got his comeuppance in court big fine for him 6 point on his license and some compo for me. :D

edit :take your insurance docs license ect.. to the police station they asked me to bring mine when i went to the station.

Yea don't let it slide. Do it all by the book, tell police, tell insurer. Get witness details etc and he won't have a leg to stand on. Especially if their own car still shows damage.

My wife had someone drive at low speed into the back of her car a while ago - it didn't do much damage but dented the bumper in slightly and scraped the paint a bit. She pulled over, the guy drove alongside, looked in then drove off. Got the reg, reported it to the police but they just didn't care. Eventually they sent a letter through basically saying that they're not interested and that they won't be doing anything about it. Pretty shocking.

I'm away over the weekend but I'll get it sorted Monday speak to the person ag the revive center and ring the police, I normally have dahscam in my van as I go all over the UK in it, but I bought this as cheap run around was only 1300 quid and body work is rubbish anyways but it's besides the point of the not was from the person I would have not been bothered, and with there honestly let it go. but as they did damage and drove off that annoys me and if it have been a car I cared about well you know what I'm getting at.
