Ok the story is I shipped a defective 250gb sata drive too them on the 7th March using special delivery. It ment the drive would be delivered on the 10th before 12pm because of the weekend. Royal mail delivered the drive before 12pm as they promised and somebody at the coventry hitachi centre signed for it. I cannot check the status of this warranty due to the hitachi site being crap as its wont except uk postcodes... a joke basically lol.

Sooo some time has past and then I get an email warning about my rma time is running out and they havent got the drive. I emailed them with the info about it being sent etc and they are adamant they havent got it.

What am I supposed to do now? Ive never had this problem with a company before... seagate and maxtor have never failed me. Hitachi are claiming I never used a proof of delivery and its my fault but I have all the proof here.
Sod hitachi after this im sticking with companys that know what they are doing.

Im not a happy bunny at all. Sent that drive royal mail special delivery and because I used that service they have refused to acknowledge they have it. Royal mail also claim it was delivered but wont give me proof somebody signed for it which hitachi are saying I must provide. Things are not smelling good here and I cant suss out why. Also how come my postcode gets spat out but somebody else's is ok?

So its looking like im stuffed! I will never touch hitachi ever again after this. How come seagate and maxtor are happy to take drives in from royal mail? Why are hitachi doing this to me? So I will have to chalk this one up too experience and I urge anyone else to be really carefull when choosing an hitachi hard drive in the future. I hate being out of pocket but at least it wasnt a big drive.

Thanx Tomsk. I ended up calling royal mail and got them sorting out this epod (electronic proof thing) I hope they do sort this out and dont forget about it.

Another nail in hitachi's coffin came from seagate who sent me an email asking if I still need the account I created with them back in 2007 and if im still happy with their products. I logged into that account and my suspicions were correct... they use the same depot to collect the drives!
Also there is plenty of information regarding my old rma's. Good service from seagate imho :)

Ive lost the drive. Royal mail havent done anything and I called them up to find out why. Got some babble out them taking signatures up to the 25th???

Hitachi are closing my rma in 2days and thats that, they didnt even except the reciepts as proof. The company has robbed me.

Ive never had this kinda crap before, never send a drive via royal mail and use a courier.

Get trading standards onto them? if you have proof they got it ( which im assuming you will get at some point from RM ) then they are clearly in the wrong. If RM cant supply you with proof they delivered it then at least try to claim back the minimum compensation for lost items. If they cant prove they delivered it then they didnt it that simple ( assuming it was special delivery signed for you used ).

Id be royally pee'd off if this happened to me and wouldnt let it drop.

I wont let this drop but its the attitude of both partys thats starting to get me annoyed now. They are both claiming they are in the right and im the one at fault... how can I be at fault when I took all the correct steps to get the drive sent correctly?

I just wish royal mail would hurry it up as im really paranoid that hitachi will just walk off and ignore me, theyv'e already threatend to close the case down as they state I clearly dont have proof and said they dont have to prove they signed for it. This is what bugs me the most and makes me feel as if hitachi are just taking me for a ride.

Maybe tell hitachi that you DO have proof but that the RM take time to send it, if they close the RMA down for good and you then get the proof of delivery PROVING that they are lying and have STOLEN your drive then you will goto trading standards etc etc... see what happens then. The fact that hitachi have issues with their warehouse systems is not your problem to resolve, a proof of delivery from RM when it arrives will show that Hitachi have recieved the drive and then denied it, effectivly stealing your propery.

Just a postscript to this:

Yesterday my hard drive was shown on Hitachi's site as not received (has done for the last three weeks). Today I got a mail saying my replacement drive has been shipped today and that my old drive was received by them yesterday....

Maybe they have had some problems there and are now catching up?

ElectroBlaster - hope your missing drive turns up in the same way....

Ok the same has happend here. Im glad they have pulled their thumb out of their preverbial you know what lol. I just hope the drive does actually turn up now and its ok...

I got a written reply from royal mail this morning stating they could not get proof of delivery which isnt good at all when you considor the delivery option chosen. In the future I will only send drives using a courier, I just cant take the chance anymore. If hitachi were still adament they required proof I wouldve been stuffed.

Why not wait till the replacement arrives and then claim RM for another drive as they "lost" it ;)

Sorry to butt in, but yous seem to be the "broken Hitachi drive club", and I was wondering........

Any of your failed Hitachi units make strange "musical" error noises when powered on?

I've just had a 250 fail on me during a move from one machine to another (while 2 others the very same day survived a VERY nasty fall onto the floor with no ill effects), and when you connect power to it, it plays a little "tune" 3 or 4 notes over and over. It might just be the motor trying to spin, but the pitches are a bit too close to real note intervals.

Weird one eh?

ANyway, the 250 is 2-3 years old so long past RMA I would imagine, fortunately most of it's contents were backed up.
