Do i need to enable 'Spread Spectrum Clocking' when enabling SATAII using the Hitachi Feature Tool?

Any other recommended performance settings (gaming rig, not bothered about noise) would be much appreciated.

Epox 9npa+Ultra
Opteron UP 146
1Gb Ballistix (pc3200)
BFG 7800GT
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160Gb

Nope, leave spread spectrum off. Just enable the SATA-II and tick spread spectrum disabled and turn off the computer as indicated :).

You could make the drive noisy using the acoustic management for extra performance but I doubt it makes that much difference.

Great, a thread about the ftool for me to hijack :)

I've got a pair of 7k80 sata drives but I never enabled sataII. So, I downloaded the iso for the feature tool version 2.00, burnt it, but when booting from it I get "Unhandled Exception" and a load of error numbers. Seems to be an error with rtm.exe, which is apparently a memory managment program (according to a quick google). Any ideas?

well excuse me while i re-hijack it ;)

I have made my feature-tool diskette but even though i have followed the instructions to the letter, my PC when reset with the diskette in floppy drive, doesn't load up the DOS feature tool, just boots up as normal?

My BIOS settings are as follows:

First Bootable: [Hard Disk]
Second Bootable: [CD-ROM]
Third Bootable: [Removable]
Boot Up Floppy Seek: [Enabled]

Any help would again be appreciated...

That would be because you have the Hard Disc set as the first boot device :p Change 'First Bootable:' --> Floppy. Remember to change back to Hard Disk when you have finished doing what-ever you are doing with the floppy!

i suspected as much but i thought 'Boot Up Floppy Seek' would be for the purpose of booting from floppy if a diskette was present  Thanks anyway.

Probably corrupt download. Burn a new CD.
