Hive, Tado or Nest? - Ideally predictive heating and Alexa control of hot water?

I had never heard of Netatmo nor Tado, but knew BG had backed Hive. I've seen lots of the ecosystem type products go bust, so thought I'd be cautious. No idea where/how Tado is funded.
Yea i use to work for HIVE.

I helped build the first HIVE app.

They have come a long way it looks like but wondering if they have gone back to using native apps instead of web apps.

The first versions of there mobile apps were all native and then they wanted to go all web app instead....

Ah interesting - my point was purely around product life support from a pure economics point of view. I.e. who is more likely to go bust, BritishGas, Tado, or Netatmo? I placed my bet that BG would keep Hive going longer than the other two.

Its not really if British gas goes bust, its more likely if British gas ditch hive or rebrand them etc

Going OT here but unless the hardware has changed, Hive use the Zigbee protocol. This means that if Hive gets dumped by BG then you’ll be able to connect the Hive stuff to a home automation system such as Home Assistant. Not ideal but it’s good to know there’s a backup option

Given Netatmo never responded to my email asking if their new unit can control my hotwater or not, that doesn't give me a good feeling.

My plumber strongly recommends Hive over Nest, and indeed it's what he uses...

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've got a quick question which it's not worth a new thread for.

I work from the office 3-4 days a week and from home the rest of the time, but I don't have set days of the week in the office (I usually decide in the morning). When I'm in the office, I'm usually out from about 7.30am - 9pm. When I'm home, I'm obviously home.

Is there a smart thermostat which will let me choose in the morning whether today is an office day or a wfh day, and to run a plan accordingly? If I'm home, obviously I want a bit of heat through the day, but if I'm in the office I basically need nothing. My "dumb" thermostat is currently set at a bit of a halfway house, which means I'm wasting energy when I'm out, and am cold when I'm home.

Don't get me wrong, I do rate Hive. It's just my house isn't ideal to enable it's prediction algos as it has lots of draughts depeneding on conditions etc etc

Any of them will to a degree

Just whack the thermostat down on an office day otw out?
If you forget can always adjust via the app whilst at work, knock the heating on a half hour before you get back as well

People seem to be missing the most customisable option. Evohome.
You could have it heat your office if you're home and not or a reduced temperature of you're out.
You could simply use the Life360 app and IFTT to have a heating program for if your phone is at home Vs phone away from home.
You could also connect it to a Calander and it could pick up your writing from home days from that. Or a simple voice command.

Hive have decided to EoL my hub and want £30 so I don't lose all app connectivity including schedules etc. Scummy practice.

Anyone recommend an alternative? Going to bin off Hive.

Well looks like this just happened with @Minstadave ?

Surprised really.

Anyways you can try tado

If with octopus energy, they have 35% of Tado products, Bulb had similar 2 years ago, I bought more TRVs and a spare room temp sensor (still not installed!).

I have had an issue with one TRV out of a 4 pack I bought, it's got comms issues, I contacted support immediately but they made me jump through loads of hoops (changing batteries, changing rooms, etc) and then asked me to wait 2 weeks to see if it improved.. I forgot all about it until this thread popped up! Just contacted them again, and hope they will just exchange it or something..

Everything else is working great, I have 7 TRVs, boiler extension interface (for WB Modulating boiler, so does that and hot water over digitial bus), main room stat and a secondary room temp sensor (one bedroom has two rads, and is a bit patchy temperature wise).
