HL2: Episode 3 to be unvieled at end of year?

It's a shame really that only so few games used this engine over the last few years and when they did they were more underwhelming than the original product. I love my HL2 fix as much as the next guy but the Episodes are dragging for too long. Two short addons per year would be perfect, three short, pretty average and forgettable in terms of storyline episodes across 6 years, that's just stretching fanbase towards breaking point. I am one creak and snap away from loosing interest in anything Valve intends to milk next decade. Even amateur, free mods are coming out faster than Valve products.

I think their problem is they're perfectionists. So they'll keep on refining and refining and never making much progress. Then just as they're getting ready to release they come up with something new (eg HDR lighting) and then they have to get that working for another 6-12 months!

Yes they don't release much, but pretty much everything they do is absolutely top notch. Far prefer that to EA's strategy of churning out the same garbage year after year.

Amen bro :)

Depending on how much dilly dallying you do :D

I doubt we'll see Episode Three released this year. They said that details concerning Episode Three will be released, not the game itself. Q1 2009 seems more likely. Hope I'm wrong of course ;)

I'll have to get Ep2 finished off, i got to that bit where you fire those sticky bombs on the stryders. :D

I managed to get the achievement for that, stopping all the buildings from being destroyed, but Steam wasn't connected to the net so it didn't register it. Needless to say I was rather miffed because its quite hard.

It takes about the same time as 1 long game.

They have the engine and they are very well versed with using it and they have the story pretty much set (I'm sure I read this in an interview with Gabe).

I would expect it to take less than a year to put out each new episode. I do enjoy the games when they release them, and I would rather they release polished games that take longer to be released, but they do take the micky with the amount of time they take :p.

Started playing HL2 again last week along with EP1 & 2. Have to say I've thoroughly enjoyed playing through it again and even by todays standards the Graphics are still pretty good.

The gameplay is also still the best there has been on an FPS for me although EP1 was a bit dull EP2 made up for that in spades. Simply cant wait for EP3.

"The next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between HL2 to Ep1, and Ep1 to Ep2," he said, rather cryptically.

Wouldn't it be easier to say it's longer then Episode 1 and 2.
Unless he means the ingame time-frame, or he means it's longer than either of them but not both together.

Who cares though, Half-life, man!

I think I might replay through them all again before Episode 3. Hopefully Project Black Mesa will be finished  so I could play that, then HL2, then Eps 1, 2 and 3. Should keep my busy for a while.

I'm starting to remember that bridge scene in HL2, there must be so much good stuff I've forgotten . . .

I replay Hl2 once a year atleast, its replay factor is immense and the story really Grips you!

Gman has to be the best mystery ever presented in a game/movie or TV series, ive never known anything else that stirs up so much theorising amongst people. Gman is immense and in some ways i kinda dont want valve to divulge who or what he is, i feel like anything they came up with would just end up being a let down after so many many years of mystery.
