Hi,
Im planning on a weekend trip to ignore the French in that country across the water.
Whats the ruling on stuff like bringing back Alcohol, cigs, electronics, ect; through customs.
My mates is convinced its 3200 cigs, but that cant be right can it?

Thanks in advance all. :).

No limits afaik, although bringing back too much may arouse suspicion that your are bringing them for re-sale

You are particularly likely to be asked questions if you have more than:

3200 cigarettes, 200 cigars, 400 cigarillos, 3kg tobacco, 110 litres of beer, 90 litres of wine, 10 litres of spirits, 20 litres of fortified wine (such as port or sherry).

From hmrc.gov.uk

Bring 3199 cigarettes, 199 cigars, 399 cigarillos, 2.99kg tobacco, 109.9 litres of beer, 89.9 litres of wine, 9.9 litres of spirits and 19.9 litres of fortified wine and they will let you through no problem.

HMRC, where you're automatically assumed to be guilty and treated like absolute scum.

That reminds me of a time at Luton Airport when I popped into the Customs office to enquire about limits on bringing items back from Andorra as I wasn't sure if it fell into the EU zone.

I rang the bell once. Nothing for 5 minutes. I rang again and about 2 minutes later a bloke came out, smiled sarcastically and pointed at a sign on the glass that was about the size of a chewing gum packet.

' RING BELL ONLY ONCE. '

I returned his smile and his stare and said he had been most helpful before leaving.

:D

I would have stood there with my finger on it for at least 10 seconds if they did that . . . .

My mum works in HMRC and her words: "If it is for your own use, then you'll be ok. 100 000 cigs are obviously not for your own use, but 3000 is plausible eg. 10 per day gives less than 3000 per year"

I hate the way people assume large quantities of stuff is not for personal use, I bought 10 litres of gbl for personal use which will last a lifetime, because it's cheaper to buy in bulk.
