wowsers .. we went on holiday to Crete this year. 5 of us (but 1 child free). including parking for 2 cars at the airport and increased legroom for 2 people it was expensive as it was at over £7.5k

but we enquired about going back to the same hotel roughly the same week (we are flexible) .. and it's gone up over £1000 and that wasn't including the parking or the legroom.

this is in august school holidays but really everything has gone insane WRT prices!.

Had a shock when looking at going back to the same resort that we enjoyed last summer (Greece). Compared to other options it’s probably at the same price point, just everything seems to have gone up! Frustrating!

Hope you enjoyed Crete - where did you go?

it was nice . only 20 min transfer from the airport. right on the (sandy) beach.... but I don't think we can justify the expense next year .. certainly not to book at moment as right now am out of work!

Yup the prices are going up and up - brexit, US oil/MAGA, etc etc

We looked along the med for short notice bargins but very little or extortionate prices (ie no bargins). Most over £4K for two (all inclusive) and some closer to 7K!
It’s cheaper to go to the Dominican Republic… however you need time for the vaccinations courses.

Deals are still there to be had but in general prices seem to be going up massively.

I did mention in the cruise thread that I recently noticed my holiday in december is now £2k cheaper and is very close to what we paid 3 years ago.

Luckily i was able to cancel and rebook and only lose my deposit.

Even breaks away in the UK are eye watering.

Yep... our Lake District holiday a few weeks ago costed almost £1500 for 4 nights, including Airbnb, petrol, various activities, food, etc.

Still though, it was worth it. We would 100% go back there in the future.

We don't go away properly like that on a regular basis, so that was how we justified it really.

Depends on what you're interested in really. Not saying you can't get it abroad either, but I'll always admire the beauty that we have on our doorsteps in the UK, despite the high cost.

Amazingly, A Return to HK in November (not school holidays) is "only" £700 at the moment. I booked it when it was £600 a few months ago.

Oh I don't mean we don't have lovely things here, we definitely do, it's just the cost.

I'm still steaming at the cost of the toilet in the Lakes when I was there a few months ago.

Oh and I'm tight so there's that too.

The lake district is one of the best places in the world, and ill die on that hill.

I went to the LD in May, just before peak season.

First night was at a spa hotel, that was £150, and 2nd night we had our little lodge in a country house (nice wedding venue), that was £99 a night. The lodge was super nice!

First night we arrived after dinner so didn’t eat but the full day we were there we took the boat up half the lake after the little train ride, then £80 at some Italian place. I think probably £150 on food? That includes some chips, tea and biscuits on the boat, the cost of the steam engine, parking.

Total £400+ easy and I think I got away with it cheap because it’s low season, breakfast included and skipped a dinner.

Some of these prices are eye-watering, makes me happy we haven't got kids, 2 years ago we did 3 nights San Fran, week in Hawaii and 3 nights in Vegas an I think it cost around £4.5k (excluding food) and next year we're doing 4 nights New Orleans, 4 nights Memphis and then 4 nights Nashville for £6.5k so think I got off lightly, does make a difference not having to travel during school holidays

That looks lovely! Flights out of Birmingham to Heraklion next summer are approaching £3000 for the four of us! Better get saving!

Dame! Brings back some memories when I was younger. Did that same flight in 1995 with my parents.

Definitely wasn't 3K back then.

UK is shockingly overpriced for what it offers.

Because they know many people can't afford to fly overseas anymore.

Thankfully I still can.

Holidays I have done so this year, going to Estonia next week and Canary Islands in December.

The advantages of travelling solo :D

@malachi - Birmingham airport must have been an experience in the 90’s! I find is very good these days, but if it was anything like the old New Street Station and the Pallisades

Birmingham airport is pretty naff. It's super crowded in departures and the whole place is poorly laid out. Having to wait for a lift to get to security is crazy. The drop and go car park is terrible too with long queues to get out every time I've used it.
