Riding my bike
Family of 4, me, wife and 2 kids 18 and 17. Given the age of the kids it could well be the last family holiday together so willing to spend a bit more if it's really worth it.

Has to be School holidays so 25th July until 4th September.

Likes:
New countries and cultures - would like to avoid western Europe simply cos we've been there loads.
The natural world - rainforest, kayaking, sailing (both wife and I can skipper a yacht)
Sea, swimming, snorkling (never scuba dived)
Speak French, Spanish

Dislikes:
Cities for any more than a couple of days
Crowds of people
Budget of about £8k to include flights and ideally most food.

Looking for ideas - so what holidays have you lot been on that might fit?

Cheers all!

Have you been to St. Lucia? I went last year, beautiful place, also a bonus as you can do some island hopping pretty easily..... I would recommend a Villa rather than a resort, but you can also get some Villa like resorts (similar to the Maldives) which are really nice.

Not sure how long you’re planning to go for, or how expensive it is these days, but the Lofoten islands could be a real adventure. I imagine sea kayaking there would be amazing. Very remote with stunning scenery! Could also see a bit of Oslo on your way out for something different.

Otherwise Indonesia is amazing, but busy!

Yeah Lofoten is also beautiful, I did Lofoten and then on to Svalbard about this time 10 years ago, great Holiday but bloody cold haha

If you've not been to the Caribbean, that could be worth a look. Some beautiful islands down there. St. Lucia is indeed lovely.
Otherwise Costa Rica worth a look.

Lofoten was 10-15 degrees when I went. Much warmer than I expected (July).

Heading back in February as I liked it so much.

Mine was a bit hardcore as it was 5 days of kayaking and camping. And one night tent flooded and it was really hard to dry those clothes. But my favourite experience/holiday ever.

Check out much better adventures if you want a packaged up holiday, loads of amazing places on it. Usually the only extra is flights

They have some awesome trips on there. I'm doing Greenland with them this year too. Lofoten (both times) was/is via them

A few pics for temptation. Note.. My shorts in pic 1!

If not mentioned already…. Mauritius.

If not mentioned already…. Mauritius.

Nice place, but depends on what you want to do. It’s not the most interesting and a lot of tourism and attractions centre around being in a fancy hotel.

Zanzibar was very different, safari would be epic as well. I mean, it’s going to depend massively on what you want to do and what prices you can find.

For 8k?
One last holiday?

I'd do this.

The holiday is about 1300pp
Plus flights.
Probably around 8k

Whoops. Just seen this misses your dates by a few days.

But that's the website anyway

Bali or Thailand might be an option. The flights will be expensive but once you're there, it can be as cheap or expensive as you like.

Very true, it doesn't go as far as it used to.
You can easily spend £8k on a decent all inclusive in Europe for 4 adults, but if you go further afield where the cost of living is less then your money will go further.
Bali for example - £3.5k for flights, £2.5k for a 2 bedroom villa/airbnb. Then what you spend when you're there is up to you.

Highly recommend Malaysia, KL and Langkawi specifically. Absolutely stunning, amazing cheap food, lots of activities and sights to see, and fantastic weather if you go at a good time of year. Can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.

I'd agree, I'm going back there next month for my anniversary (10 years since our last visit for our honeymoon). 10 nights all inclusive at the Sugar Beach Resort... The hotel is stunning and the beaches are amazing! The cost for me and the wife was just over 6k.

There are other options though and you could probably find somewhere within the 8k budget for yourself and the family.
