Holidays Costs in UK

Always travel abroad here and never seen the attraction of a holiday in my home country when it will generally cost more. Last holiday for a month in Thailand was £360 for the flight and £200 total for accommodation (room for 2 or more )‍♂️

Went to a lovely hotel in Cornwall called the Scarlet. It cost more than my last 5 portugal trips combined but I definitely find some kind of comfort not feeling like an annoying foreigner and not having to worry about getting stuck somehow with language barrier etc. Not that it ever happened in PT as my gf was from there.
I'm not one for going to stay in a resort somewhere.

I go to Spain a couple of times a year. I'm going camping in the UK when it gets nicer but that's about it.

I think a tax on flights that is spent on planting trees.

Has the UK priced itself out of the market ???

Looking at all the "fully booked" holidays on the websites, I doubt it.

FYI, I'd rather spend 2k for a log cabin in the Lake District than 1k for a hotel In Lanzarote!

The only foreign holidays I take are snowboarding ones, more through necessity than preference.

Iwhen you're sitting on the beach in 27 degrees drinking beer

I'd be bored in 5 minutes.

All my family holidays were to Filey growing up, at the caravan park. :)
Yep it's a nice place (or was when I lived in Yorkshire) not tacky or full of yobs like Scarborough, we used to go every other weekend, park up in primrose Valley, walk on that amazing beach, outdoor cafe in harbour. We were near Leeds then but to me 1.5 hour drive is nothing we are all pretty close to a coast in UK, while my mates with kids would just go down the white rose and spend.
Out of the haven sites primrose was the best with that beach access that Blue dolphin lacked, must admit we would visit for free and use the facility's, a bit cheaky but hey ho

Take your bike! Lanzarote (and all the Canaries) is a great place for a cycling holiday. Road surfaces, temperature, traffic, terrain is all much nicer than we have over here.

Ah Primrose valley....what memories. ANd then walk to Filey in an evening and get fish and chips from the Brigg Fish Shop. My childhood holidays there.

Better than mountain biking in the Lake District?

I doubt that.

You're not actually talking about road cycling (I think I just sicked up a little there) are you?

Been to the Haven Craig Tara in Scotland a few times, we go in the English May half term and as the Scots kids don't have the same week off it's fairly quiet. Always really enjoyed it.

View from our "van" last time we went:-

£200 for a months accommodation in Thailand? Was it a brothel?

Like everywhere if you stay away from the tourist areas, money goes much further. I once had a stag do in Krakow and I managed to rent a luxury penthouse apartment for the 7 of use for £9 per night each. I couldnt even rent the one bedroom cottage where I live for that money.

If I wanted a mountain biking holiday I certainly wouldn't be going to England. Nonsense outdoor access laws which so many countries have done a lot better.

We have amazing routes in the UK, both on general Bridleway and at dedicated parks.
