My tablet in the hallway. The frame I had to print in two halves, still needs to be glued together and made to look better.

Looks great! I have seen ways to remove the seams, but I can't say I've ever tried!!

Go for it! There's a bit of a learning curve like anything new, but it's amazing how easy it becomes once it 'clicks'!

FYI - Hacs Add-ons don't automatically update (hadn't realised this). Just gone in and updated like 10 things.

If you look on the sensor listings it does show you that there are updates (this was auto added to my dashboard before I turned auto add off).

So it looks like i cant run my refurbed laptop as a virtual machine as the vt-x has been disabled and i cant seem to find were to enable it in the bios… as i dont seem tp have virtualization technology in there, although its supportee by the laptop.

how else can i turn the laptop into a home asistant server??

You could run HA as bare metal install? Run it directly on the hardware.

Thanks for that dlockers…..but i have just found the HA windows app, that does everything i need and i will set that up tmrw.

also looking at those bios options, i know i dont have them on the laptop. I got it as a refurb from ebay and the bios is from 2011 and has no enable/disable functions on it. But its running windows 10 and it was cheap as chips.

The HA app should run on it, if not i will throw it in the bin lol

Got a second solution now too. Using python for the install, so a second non virtual set-up. So looks like my nice cheap laptop will now do what i want.

Sorry missed this! It's just a Fire HD10, 9th gen I think. Running fire toolbox to debloat with fully kiosk browser, which allows HA integration for the tablet to control it. Such as adjusting the brightness for time of day, turning the screen off at night or whatever you want to do. It also uses the front facing camera for motion detection to wake the screen.

Find the IP address that DHCP has given your laptop then swap homrassistant in that URL above with the IP.
