Home Assistant beginners

Jailbroken Amazon fire tablet in the hall with 3d printed wall mount and surround.

Slowly moving the whole house over to Sonoff wall switches, so also installed two NSPanel Pros with Home Assistant addon, one in the Kitchen + Dining + Sitting Area and another in the Lounge, great for controlling Sonos etc.

NSPanel Pro

Got a normal NSPanel in the Office, more of a test, not even as close to as flexible as the NSPanel Pro - NSPanel

Will an old iPad work for me now whilst I get used to it. I am starting from standing start
It will. You can run the HA app on it. If you’re just starting off note that it will take quite some time and effort to get the iPad working the way you want it unless it’s just unlock and tap the HA app.
If advise you to get all your smart devices working and any automations set up before looking at a wall display. A wall display is a real time soak to get right.

Ok the main things I want it for:

1) control lights and aircon. Too many apps at moment

2) see solid solar display and energy usage

3) see my deco mesh connection

4) see my cctv cameras live

Is that simple to do you reckon

If there are integrations for all your devices then it’ll be simple enough. Once all the devices are set up, you’ll be able to create your dashboard(s) and decide what to show on your iPad

They are all on individual apps at moment. Want it all in one place

Just double checking we’re in the same page here - you’re aware that Home Assistant is a server side app and so needs to be run on an always on computer? The use of an iPad is to access the server side app either through a web browser of the Home Assistant viewer app

Been working on my dashboard for the past few days.....

Its got quite a lot of conditional elements in there.
The brown bin top left changes colour depending on which bin i need to put out each week (using the bin addon to read local councils bin collections)
The panel turns dark at night and the lights light up when on
The bottom bar is fully conditional too...
Weather and temperature changes colour depending on the outside temperature
Home and away change if myself and the wife are home or not
Heating turns red when on and also can be controlled
The light pill will turn red if any lights are on and allows you to turn them all off

Also ive got pop-up windows when motion is activated on the ring cameras and a snapshot picture is displayed
Pop-up status also for any ring sensors that are activated or not shut correctly.

Took a lot of yaml to do this, chatgbt also helped :)

Just got the HA Green. But can’t connect to my aircon unit. MHI Brand or some smart lights i bought from Costco.

Is there any way round this

Ok how long will this take me to simply control/view

Solis Solar
MHI Air con
Ring
CCTV (not sure which brand)
Lights

I just want those items on a dashboard

Bit lost. How do I install HACS on iPad. Do I need to do it on desktop.

I have managed to set up a draft dashboard with ring, weather and Philips lights
