Home brewing kits ....

I'd at least use bottles that were designed for sparkling water, not still. They aren't designed for use under any pressure.
And yeah, as above, keep them in a dark place otherwise you might get skunking.

Bit Flat (maybe the ikea bottle) but tasty ! O
Ultimate Brewery Classics - Oktoberfest
its bit sweeter than the Hofbräuhaus but hope it will age well.

Looks interesting, a kit? Might have to look that up :)

Just cracked my first Euro Lager which I brewed as usual at 13 degrees, left for 95 days in the bottle and it's pretty damn good. Not quite on the level as the pils but the Euro is a not premium kit. Considering I got the kit for half price so all in £9 for 42ish bottles, an utter bargain :)

If it comes up again on a deal I will snap a couple up.

A few months ago Tesco had a half price offer on most of their home brewing equipment and most beer kits. Maybe he bought it then?
But to be honest, even £13 for a kit and another £5 for a beer enhancer to give more fermentables for the kit still works out incredible value. Thats about 50p a pint.

My Coopers European will have been in the FV for 3 weeks on Thursday. It's still fermenting but is slowing down with less pressure under the lid.

It's been kept at pretty much 13ºc the whole time, my kitchen was the perfect temp.

What's the best way to proceed from here? After transferring my Canadian Blonde into the keg, I kept it at room temp for a few more days before moving it into my fridge at 6ºc for a couple of weeks before drinking.

Should I use the same method with the European?

I think as soon as this is out of the FV, I'll get my next brew on :D

After reading advice on jims brew forum, I use the same method now to rest my beer after fermenting. After 3 weeks I remove it from 13 degrees and let it come upto room temp for 2 or so days while I check it finished on the hydrometer.

I then get left with something that eradicates that home brew after taste and get something that tastes like I bought it :)

You keg yours I bottle and leave for 12 weeks for secondary conditioning :)

Hi guys,

after quickly squizzing through the thread and seeing a starter kit in Dunelm mill (which i didnt buy). I now would like to get into home brewing, lagers, bitters and ciders.

Are there any absolute bargains out there to get me started? I dont really want to spend any more than £60-£70.

Cheers guys!

Knocked up a ghetto heating mat :D. Took the top part of the hifi off so that its the amp directly under the tub as that gives off heat even in standby mode. Got a thermometer in the tub at the moment and its staying around 23c, which should be perfect for this Aus Lager.

I'm only filling to the 20l mark, so it shouldnt overflow. I might cover the hifi with a plastic sheet just in case though.

This is what me and MrsSeakitchen got started brewing with. Would suggest adding some brewing sugar for priming and to push your order over £65 to get free shipping.

i use this, well, 2010 version and its been great. i have brought a tap to fit the FV now with an attachment for filling bottle so that should make the process easier.

great started kits and especially as you get a brew kit thats lovely!

Tesco direct has the Coopers starter kit back in stock at £52.47 which seems cheap compared to other places.

EDIT: Hmm, I got a stock update email at 7am saying they were back in stock and they're now out of stock again.

Yeah this is what i'm probably going to go for. Ill take a wander down the local tescos tonight just incase theyve got stock. If not ill order online.

Can't wait to try it! Am i right in thinking that if i get some of the Brew Enchancer (1 or 2, what's the difference?) it'll make a better drink?

MARKA you is brave.

 Not much chance of that happening, its not even bubbled once yet. Its left the ring of crud and there is sediment at the bottom, but doesn't seem to be making much co2 at all.

It's keeping it at a constant 25c, which seems to be a good mid temp to keep it at. The last one I made I struggled to keep it above 18c, which was the minimum temp required. My room was dropping to 14c at night.

If these 2 beers turn out ok then I'll find a better solution for my next attempt. I guess it only takes one to overflow and it could be a disaster lol. I'll probably just buy a heatmat or something as I don't have the room for heating it in a big box of water as some others have done.
