Home brewing kits ....

For anyone looking for good, high pressure swing top bottles, I recommend:

https://www.waitrose.com/webapp/wcs...lian+lemonade.html?storeId=10317#.UyoPQIUyXQI

They're not cheap and you'll need quite a lot of them, but Waitrose sometimes have discounts on multibuys.

The bottles are very sturdy and have withstood some of my more fizzy/high pressure beers. I've bottled 4 times using these and I think they are well worth the pain of collecting them. You get to drink a lot of nice sugary lemonade too :)

Why not just but Grolsch instead for that price?

I like to keep my beer free from sediment as much as possible so prefer bottles around the 440-500ml mark. So I can pour in smoothly to a pint glass and leave the compact stuff as much as possible in the bottle. I found with 750ml I was stopping and refilling which swills the sediment round.

YAY THANKS GILLY YES, YES I AM SHOUTING :D:D:D:D:D

Message sent to you in trust Gilly. ;-)

You guys are ****ing awesome

I haven't sampled any yet, as I wanted to make sure the beer was truly settled as you pointed out, but I wasn't expecting what arrived!

True legends

I had a rough couple of days yesterday, turns out I may have a stomach ulcer and have been in a lot of pain, but you guys brightened it up unexpectedly :) Thank you (you're also a big hit with my kids :D).

Aww Gilly I am sorry to hear you have an ulcer, I hope they sort the ulcer and your pain very soon. Its our pleasure we are just sorry it took awhile to get to you, hehe am I guessing your talking about the haribo for your children? :D:D:D

Gilly, you are welcome.
So sorry to hear that you've not been feeling so great. Hope you're feeling better soon. Thought the padding for the bottles might be appreciated too (might have had a little word with 5UB to wrangle that one). Along with the Haribos.

Best regards and hope you are well soon to enjoy them.

p.s. should I RTM for not fully starring out exactly how awesome we are  :p :D

Quick question. Just bought a Youngs little bottler to add to a FV. There are no instructions, so just wanted to check whether the rubber washer goes on the inside or outside of the bucket? I'd assume outside, but thought i'd check.

NVM, used the washer on the outside and it doesn't seem to be leaking. I was tempted to put a small amount of petroleum jelly on the washer, but wasn't sure if I should.

Might leave it overnight with some VMP and water, just to make sure it's not going to leak.

You mean the white and orange tap? if so yes on the outside.

You want to use a worktop with space underneath so you can tilt the FV to get the last 8 or so bottles and leaver just a few 100ml of beer behind, oh and a seat wont go a miss, I use an upside down bucket (just like oor wullie!)

Thanks, I was wondering about the last bit of beer with the tap being so high. There was already a flattened area for the tap, so I couldn't do it any lower.

One thing i was wondering about. There is a little red plastic stopper that goes into the threaded and of the tap, which has a slot on one side of it. I assume the slot faces up, to stop it sucking sediment in?

I can't see a slot on mine, I do batch priming so I siphon from the fermentation vessel to another vessel which has the little bottler and priming sugar (dissolved and boiled for 5 mins in 1/2L of water) so theres no sediment.

The slot can be seen on the red part. If it does face up then i'll just have to make sure none of the krausen ends up going through it.

If this brew goes well I might invest in another bucket to have a go at batch priming. I just use the coopers sugar drops at the moment.

Ordered the wherry and sundew kits to try. After years of being a pils/lager drinker I've developed a real taste for ale. Must be my age. A micro brewery pub has opened up near me and I have had some frankly awesome ales.

I'd be interested how the Sundew turns out. I was very happy with the Wherry, so wouldn't mind doing a few more from the Woodfords range.

Got my English bitter done last night and it's bubbling away nicely. Bottling should be an easier job now. I'm tempted to get some starsan, to make it even easier. Having to rinse 40 bottles out 3 times with water is a bit of a chore. Plus i think the tap will need to be sanitised, which would be easy with some starsan in a spray bottle.
