Hey mate.

Firstly, abandon the idea of a all-in-one style 5.1. They're typically over-priced and well... Not very good in general. Even if budget was low and i couldnt afford an AV Receiver and separates, i'd go with a quality Yamaha or Q Acoustic soundbar over an all-in-one 5.1.

Few questions for you.

  • How strict is your budget? £500 max or can you stretch for the right buy. For example, this at £699 is a bloody stonking buy (And i really do mean STONKING BUY) at the moment - http://petertyson.co.uk/index.php/yamaha-rx-v681-with-monitor-audio-mass-av.html So much for what you pay, i'm actually a little shocked it's on there. Might actually be a missprice as the RXV381 with the Mass speakers is at the same price. It's basically £300 off.
  • How important is 4K and HDR to you now or in the short term.
  • Think you may want Atmos in the future? This is where you have object based sound For example; ceiling speakers so if you have an action scene with things raining from above you - it feels like it is. Do you feel that is worth the extra now to know youve got the options later. Or you'll never go that far with it.
  • Whats the balance of your listening with this? 20% Music, 80% Movies & TV etc?
  • What are the dimensions of your room?
  • Do you prefer more discrete looking speakers or like big bookshelf style ones.

All of the above can weigh heavy on a recommendation, especially the budget and sound split.

thanks for the replies
my knowledge of AV recievers etc.. is limited so thats why ive been going for all in ones.

Budget isnt strict, i can go above if needed

4K/HDR not important right now

Atmos is something im interested in

Balance: Probably (60% Movies/TV | 20% Gaming | 20% Music)

Room size: Roughly 20ft x 15ft

Any speakers are fine

This looks a great deal and very tempting, but as i mentioned my knowledge of this stuff is limited.
Im guessing i need my own wiring, are they easy to set up ?

my TV only has 2 HDMI slots, 1 which is occupied by skyHD box and 1 optical

Thanks for your answers bud.

Typically i'd give you a few options, normally the Q7000, KEF 3005SE, Monitor Audio MASS or Q Acoustic 3000 Series (Providing you either liked bookshelf units or listened to allot of music. I'd also say demo sets before you make a decision.

But... After seeing the PeterTyson offer with the Monitor Audio MASS 5.1, i'd pull the trigger mate. Purely as i think it might be a miss price so you dont want to miss out as they have the RXV381 with the same speakers for the same price. I've never owned a set but demo'd them and seen so many people rave about them. For £699 it's a steal, the AVR is typically £400-£450 new everywhere. So you're getting the speaker set for £250-£299 - which is just insane as they're £599 new. For example, Richersounds have same bundle but with Denon X2300W and it's £879

Your other option is the Denon at £59 more - advantage of that is all the HDMI ports are 2.0 and 2.2 HDCP, i personally have the X2300W and love it but the Yamaha is a top AVR aswell. If it were me and as youre already pushing your budget, may aswell go for Yamaha unless you really need more than 3x HDMI 2.0 ports (You mainly need them for 4K / HDR).

Yes you'll need speaker cable, very easy to setup. Just measure out your space to figure how much you'd need then buy that amount, you just cut it up and take some of the sleve off to feed in (Or buy some cheap banana plugs so they're easy to plug and unplug). You'll also seen a sub cable, i personally use QED Micro cable (http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-cables/qed/micro/qed-micro) You can get cheaper though and often people sell QED Micro on eBay for less. Sub cable, around £8 dependant on length you need (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisual-5m-...UTF8&qid=1486665310&sr=8-5&keywords=Sub+cable)

Grand mate, you've got yourself such a bargain there. Also fully setup for Atmos, DTS:X, 4K and HDR10 if you want it in future :).

It's a doddle bud, here is a video i found on YouTube to show you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zFs8uSZsCc

I personally have these plugs;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/5fn/Fisu...8&qid=1486665694&sr=1-6&keywords=banana+plugs

So i put the wire into them, then just plug them into my AV Receiver.

Let me know when it arrives, happy to walk you through anything.

You only need 1 HDMI input on your TV. Your AV Receiver connects to your TV and everything else connects to the AV Receiver. You can use the optical out on the TV to link back to the Receiver for anything that you're watching directly on the TV (I find it less hassle than ARC).

I'm sorely tempted to order that bundle myself for our bedroom and sell our Yamaha soundbar which we've got in there at the moment... Just because of the price.

Not sure i'd get it passed the wife though having recently purchased the Samsung 55" KS7000 and Denon X2300W lol.

I'd opt for something like this.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/KabelDirek...486713557&sr=1-23&keywords=speaker+cable&th=1

Depends on your run, if you are going under carpet you may want to look at flat cabling like:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_s...electronics&field-keywords=flat+speaker+cable

Or a mix of both. I have flat cable for the runs to my rear speakers and I bought cable similar to the first style for the front 3. I can vouch for the quality of Monitor Audio speakers. I use the Radius range, I've never heard the Mass speakers but I'm sure they will be top notch.

Has anyone bought from petertyson online before?

Put an order in yesterday evening and no email or anything yet. Meant to be next day delivery aswell
