Home cinema ideas for a room 4m x 3.5m

That is nice with the light scheme. I particularly like the way they have hidden the projector as well and I presume they have hidden the rest of the equipment in a similar manner?

The equipment is in a rack in an adjoining room so completely out of sight - it does mean a small trip each time a disc swap is required although most of the material used during my demo was on a network drive.

My rack is going to be half height double width and will be at the back of the room.

While we're posting inspiration pictures :)

My last setup was similar, but without the width. Either way I can't stress how much more impact the picture has when the screen is framed in complete darkness. I get that it may not be to everyone's taste - I think it looks very smart - but the experience is quite different when you have what looks like an absolutely enormous plasma screen floating in space. The image pops so much it hits you in the face. At the cinema there are loads of lights on while the movie's playing for safety reasons, but when all your eyes can see is a screen it can actually get a bit trippy! The difference between black matt paint and velvet was noticeable - and not just in terms of picture quality, which was certainly improved, but in having a movie take up every sense and drawing you in.

Thanks for the great advice everyone. Now trying to sort the a house purchase out, but whatever we end up with I will be having some sort of single purpose cinema room so I will be back with more questions for sure.

Stupid question but we are in negotiations about the house I was talking about and been offered two choices, the fancy shed above or a proper brick built room, guessing it's no contest brick build will be the better of the two? Not much difference in cost

There are pros and cons with each tbh. The garden building has perhaps a more forgiving structure in terms of audio, and there's far lower chances of bass rumble through the rest of the house. The extension will probably add more value to the property and may be easier to heat and, if the walls are dot n dab then it could be easier to wire too.

The room

Good news is we are now in a position to build our home cinema/home office. We are going with a wood construction garden room to a custom design by a local firm. I have designed the following room making best use of the space available in the corner of the garden, behind our garage.

Going to finalise the design this week and pay a deposit, with delivery around 5 week from now.

As you can see this design allows for an uninterrupted view of a projector screen which will be placed on the wall represented by a TV cabinet in the plans as the software I used didn’t have anything for a project screen. Projector to be located above the sofa, distance to the screen around 4.5m. I will ensure a power supply is placed up high where the project is to be mounted.

My desk is set back at the top of the design and the only tweak would be a window looking out into the garden here so I have some natural light on the desk area.

Room to be fully insulated, tongue & groove interior finish, also looking at under floor heating for winter months. The room will also have 5 double power sockets, two ceiling lights and a wired network connection to our existing home network.

The equipment

I am looking for your advice on the audio visual side of things.

My current shopping list includes:

#Projector Screen – Recommendations required on brands, this will be a permanent screen as a dedicated room. Budget around £150?
#Projector – Recommendations again on this based on size of room and connectivity. Budget around £800-£1000?
#Surround sound – Currently in the lounge we use a Sonos setup of soundbar, sub and two play 1’s. Tempted to mirror this setup so it can connect again via our sonos system for music aswell although open to other options
#AV Receiver to take input from PC/Xbox etc and send a single connection to the projector via a long HDMI cable. What would I need to budget for this? Never use one of these before.
#PC/Mac Mini that can connect to a monitor on the desk as well as the projector. Will be used to connect to Sky/BT sports etc online and played through the projector.

Current equipment owned to be used:

#Electric recliner corner sofa – super comfy
#Xbox One
#iMac

i'd add more to the screen cost (screen will out live projector) and would recommend what lucid said about 21:9 screen, i have a 106" sapphire pull down screen and whilst i love it i do hate black (ish) bars.
I have an optoma hd50 which is currently £900 at richer sounds and everyone seems to like it.

Hi Tweedbean,

Sorry to resurrect a thread but I would love to speak with you regarding your room and what it's like now / spec.

Reason being that I will shortly have approx a 4m x 3m room which I would like to turn in to a cinema room and it's hard to find anything online for suggestions and reviews on a room so small. Can't seem to find a way to message you privately on here either...

Hopefully hear from you soon

Thanks!
