hey,

I was faced with a flood at home and its completly ruined my almost new laminate flooring.

I have been told I have to have a machine installed to dry out the floor and then I can have a new floor installed.

While that is all great news. It got me thinking.

Where do i stand if I wanted to be gone with the laminate and get a tiled floor. Even if i were to pay the difference.

Do home insurance companies allow you to carry out the work yourself or have an independent person do the work instead as them?

I just think while I have gone out last year and bought an fitted a new floor. Now its ruined. Id rather change to tiles

Any pointers etc is appreciated.

Thanks.

Totally dependent on your insurer and your policy. If they/it are good, they may cut you a cheque to the value of what it would cost to put right as is which you could then use toward the cost of changing to what you want. If they aren't they may politely instruct you to whistle. :p

IME they will just make a cash payout based on quotes to replace like for like. If you want to use that to pay towards tiles, that's your choice.
